...This, but in a bread format. Eating it makes me think "tastes like potato chips", it's a funny impression but also a very yummy snack - I'd eat this again for sure.

Baby Cheese Potato Chips (Japan Crate July 2019)

🧀 Taste

These chips are a lot thinner and therefore very crumbly. I felt the need to eat multiple chips at once to make up for this fact. I’m not entirely sure what “Baby Cheese” is but I think it’s similar to those tiny cheese wheels we eat that are wrapped in red wax. The closest American thing I could compare these to flavor-wise would be Pirate’s Booty. Like a chip-version of Pirate’s Booty.

🧀 Appearance

They look exactly like normal potato chips but smell very strongly of cheese. Kind of a weird cognitive dissonance there. 

🧀 Packaging 

The name on the bag cracks me up because they specify that these chips are “For adults,” possibly to prevent any confusion that “baby cheese” chips are for babies. The bag brags that the cheese-powder used on the chips is from QBB (”Quality’s Best & Beauty”) and that it has an “adult flavor.” 

The back of the bag has some difficult kanji on it but it basically says that they took a familiar flavor and turned it into a “rich/luxurious” snack for adults. Lol I dunno about “luxurious.” It’s still junk food.

According to the website on the back of the bag, this is kind of a “side product.” Their big-seller is “Wasabeef” chips which I guess...combine beef and wasabi flavors? I can’t picture that. 

The site is just as elaborate as the “Kani Pan” website. There’s in-depth photos of how they create the chips, 4-koma style comics featuring their mascot (400 of them!), and product listings. Some interesting flavors they sell include: sesame oil & garlic, smoked curry, ginger, sea urchin (???), “rich butter” etc. etc. Dang. I want to try some of those really bad now...
