Just read a somewhat chilling piece on the Rajneeshees who used Rajneeshpuram near Antelope as their base as they attempted to take over control of Wasco County in the 1980s. Like all religious cults, whatever good ideas the group may have been promoting, those were soon overwhelmed by greed and violence. With the demise of that cult, Antelope has retuned to somnolence, indeed it is almost a ghost town.
"Wild Wild Country” (dir. Chapman Way and Maclain Way, 2018), a six-hour documentary examining the so-called “Rajneesh invasion” of Wasco County, Oregon, and the resulting conflict between the neighboring communities of Rajneeshpuram and Antelope, is released on Netflix today.
