"Listen I wasn't TRYING to steal those apples-- they just FELL into my jacket like--" He's really not helping himself here. But even a thief had to eat, right?

Xaallo wastes no time manhandling the human to retrieve the fruit, being just a touch more rough than necessary. He peels off the jacket, emptying it of apples before a thought occurred to him. This man, this absolute fool--

-- must be terribly hungry if he risked stealing from him. A moment of consideration flitted by and Xaallo dropped his quarry. He dropped two of the smallest, most bruised of the apples next to him, in the dirt.

His gaze was hard, irritated despite the generosity.

“Now off with you.”

     “I do not,” she answers, cheerful despite the denial.  After a moment, she continues: “In the movie Dumbo, animal babies are delivered to their parents via stork, implying no direct genetic relation between parent and child.  There is no reason to think that the children delivered to Dumbo in the future would share his unique physiology.”

      SHE MOST CERTAINLY IS A COP BUT SHE’S NOT ABOUT TO TELL HIM -- not when it seems like a much more entertaining feat to leave him out of the loop. besides, her withholding information wasn’t entirely lying -- she’d never say she ISN’T a cop.

She just fixed him with a stare. And kept staring. Just absorbing what he just said. Yes, she heard him just fine, but it was a lot. She opened her mouth, then closed it again and raised a finger to point at him, “You know I’m a fed, right? Why’re you telling me you stole ambulances? How the fuck did you steal ambulances and not actual cars? Why didn’t you just drive him in one of those ambulances? Did you scrap it or something?” If you do something illegal, don’t tell me. It was a stern rule among friends, but this guy didn’t know her very well. And he was from Florida. Of course.

"Janet-- you always say 'not a girl' and I like it cuz it's super cute. But if I'm your boyfriend, what should I call YOU? Cuz I care about your FEELINGS and stuff and I wanna make sure you're okay." He was still reeling from the truth-- part of him was DELIGHTED to have her back, but the other part was afraid she didn't share his feelings anymore. He didn't want to DISTRACT her from running the neighborhood and all that other important stuff-- but he also wanted a HUG. -wasdope

“I’m afraid if I say partner, you’ll start saying howdy. Companion makes me sound more like a robot ” There’s a possibility every single database has just been perused. “Sweetheart is nice. It sounds a little romcommy, but those aren’t the worst. I’ve seen about ten thousand of them.” Sometimes Janet gets bored. “Significant other doesn’t really sound like us.” 

She’s not sure. And Janet is very, very used to being sure. 

Except when it comes to feelings that are her own. So maybe not so new after all.

"I just wanted to tell you that I missed you and I was totally gonna punch that dude Shawn in the face, or at LEAST throw a molotov cocktail at him, but Michael said I couldn't." Instead he's just gonna hug her, because he MISSED Janet. Sure, Jason knew he was far less smart than the others in the Soul Squad-- but that didn't matter to Janet. She liked him for who he was, and he liked that. -wasdope

Janet is getting ready to say michael was right, mouth opening, when his arms are around her. Oh. Oh, that’s nice. Better than nice, that’s wonderful. For the first time in the past three weeks, Janet relaxes. The Bad Place was all rigid lines and attention kept, strict movements to watch where Vicky and Shawn were, jaw a tight line but making sure they never saw her afraid. Shoulders slump, cheek pressing to Jason’s cheek and arms tight around him. Technically, Janets have no need to breathe ( though the feature’s been built in since 203 B.C. ), but Janet sighs. 

“I missed you so much. Thank you fo not throwing a molotov cocktail. I kind of want to punch Shawn in the face myself. I think that might be a nice little activity.”
