Brooklyn 1981, Part One

I’ll do two more posts form Brooklyn when I first moved there in the fall of 1981.

The top image here was taken on the Pratt Institute campus, with the library undergoing a major renovation. The second image is a playground nearby, at St. James Place and Greene Avenue. And the last picture was take on Washington Avenue at Lincoln Place—the view is to the north, with the Williamsburg Bridge being visible in the distance.

Washington Avenue Bridge Beam Transport Schedule Change

WHEELING, W.Va. – Beam transport for the Washington Avenue Bridge project scheduled for this evening has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. The delivery will now take place on Wednesday between 8-9 a.m. Evening transports will resume Thursday at 8 p.m. and continue nightly through Friday. Trucks will back down Washington Avenue from the westbound Interstate 70 exit ramp to the site, with flaggers assisting traffic. Drivers should expect delays and plan ahead. Washington Avenue Bridge Beam Transport to Impact Traffic

WHEELING, W.Va. – Starting Monday at 8 p.m. and continuing each night through Friday, crews will be transporting a crane and beams for the Washington Avenue bridge project. During this time, trucks will back down Washington Avenue from the westbound exit ramp of Interstate 70 to the work site, with flaggers assisting traffic. Traffic delays are expected. Motorists and residents are encouraged to plan ahead. The City appreciates the public’s patience during this phase of construction.
