Headcanon Meme: The Vanguard

Cayde-6. If you had to define the epitome of skill without focus, the word in the dictionary would falll under the header ‘Cayde-6′. In the field the exo is a hunter without peer. As a member of the Vanguard, he leaves a lot to be desired. All the witty jokes and one-liners can’t hide the lack leadership he has displayed since assuming the mantle. Luck alone seems to have kept him one step thus far, but it is only a matter of time before that runs out and the bill comes due. Make no mistake, however. It’ll be the people around him that end up paying for it. Ikora Rey. You would be a fool not to respect her. Osiris choose well when he selected his disciples. She has the same fiery passion and boundless curiosity that drove him to greatness. It is for that very same reason it has always been difficult to trust her unconditionally. She may be the spymaster for the Vanguard, but one has to wonder how many of those secrets belong to her and her former mentor. And how many will lead her down the same dark path.

Zavala. Even after all these years the Awoken’s name still leaves a bitter taste. Like all of the Vanguard, his skill in batlte is beyond reproach. It was his misplaced self-righteousness that created the lasting rift that lingers between the remnants of the Sunbreakers and the Last City, however. His voice the spurring force that condemned the order to be all but driven off the planet and into self-exile. Respect can be given to the Titan, but the man still has a ways to go before the scales are balanced.

the words had caught her off guard, jaw slack for a moment. from ila’s perspective, there was no reason for the words. hands placed the gun down to give full attention to the titan. “you have my word, lady wasp. there is no reason for me to keep secrets from you. they do nothing but cause problems between a team, i have no intention to cause that.” the tone was uncommon for the hunter, steel and serious. an easy way to tell her words were honest.

ila always felt tiny next to wasp despite the small different in height. (four inches was a large different with a titan, wasn’t it?) at times, the difference was comforting, feeling as if she had a shield against whatever the enemy team brought to the table. at other times…ila almost felt like a child in comparison. that seemed to be par for the course when it came to the exo.

they had resorted to sharing a tent for the night, their mission taking longer than the four or so hours cayde had estimated. while sleep was mostly unnecessary for wasp, she had managed to convince the hunter to lay down. something about being at her best in the morning. 

not long after she had resigned to tossing and turning all night, a heavy arm fell over her waist, almost causing her to jump. her head turned slightly to catch part of wasp’s head in the corner of her eye. smirk slowly forming. “i thought you didn’t sleep?”

it was movie night, at ila’s persistence. something to do to decompress and get to know the golden age a bit better. wreck-it ralph. one of the few vids that was left for “rental” during the weekend. with snacks and drinks (and blankets), they were set. a small attempt to forget about responsibilities for a while. wasp’s legs pushed into hers, causing the hunter to laugh. “you have almost the entire couch!”
