screeches like a banshee: SHAXX AND ULDREN REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

shaxx loves uldren. shaxx loves uldren. SHAXX LOVES ULDREN. SHAXX LOVES-----

uldren was shaxx’s only friend in the distributary even after mara and everyone else found out about him because uldren was the only person he trusted in that hell paradise and was the only one who treated him kindly and like a person even after learning about his non-awoken abilities. literally crawled out of that cryopod and immediately pack-bonded with him. laid down his life for this tiny man in an instant, wanted to see him become stronger and maybe even get the freedom that he himself got when he finally left that pod.a few years after the distributary was settled in and shaxx was released from his pod, he told uldren his past. uldren is the first to know and would remain the only one to know for thousands of years until shaxx left for earth and staked out his place as a warlord. before uldren’s death, 3 people total knew of his past. as of now, only 2 people know it and seeing kinder uldren breaks his heart okshaxx had a lil cottage in the distributary in the forest that uldren found him in. it was a small cozy place, shaxx loved it. he built a room just for uldren.shaxx would’ve made uldren king of the awoken in a heartbeat lmao

ok look......... shaxx called uldren a goon in one of his idle lines.......... that line doesnt exist in this relationship....... shaxx loves his beautiful son named uldren sov and seeing him be taken and consumed by riven utterly broke his heart............. he cried for cayde and he cried for uldren, they were both pawns for something so much bigger and they just. they didn’t know. uldren especially didn’t know any better, he just wanted his sister back. shaxx desperately wanted to save him but there was only so much he could do while the guardian went rampaging across the tangled shore for uldren.inevitably, he watched over uldren’s resting place for a time before realizing that jolyon till was there. he missed uldren’s subsequent resurrection by a day but when uldren made it to the tower, shaxx almost went fucking feral defending the hell out of him when people inevitably tried to murder uldren again. of course, no one understands why shaxx is so hellbent on defending newdren but jesus fucking christ if his rage didnt make everyone back down.

in a surprising twist of situations, shaxx now takes care of uldren 2.0 similarly to how uldren first found shaxx in the distributary. in a way, shaxx thinks there is no better way for him to repay his eternal debt to uldren having saved him from his frozen coffin in the first place. uldren is a part of shaxx’s family and goddamnit kinderguardian uldren is being inducted right back into it. getting uldren back, even if it’s at the cost of the man’s memories, is all shaxx could ever ask for.

"Father," Fikrul's rasping voice speaks up as he comes to approach the Scorn King, arcstaff thudding against the ground out of time with the Archon's footsteps as he draws closer. He takes a knee and bows his head, then pauses and takes a rattling breath- something he no longer needs, but continues to do out of familiarity- before he looks up and continues to speak.

"My duties for the day, have been finished. Our ranks grow with each passing day, Ether flow is steady, I have estimated that our army will be twice as strong within the week if all goes well." Another rattle comes from Fikrul, a sound ever-present since his rebirth as Scorn after a near-death at the hands of the Guardians he's come to despise. "The future of the House of Scorn is beginning to look brighter, would you agree?"

10. nightfall

   There was not much that seperated the day and night of the Shore. The ever slow shift of asteroids was the closest thing they had, and as they turned along the expanse of space, there were hours of darkness. It is only permeated by the lights of eyes, and occasional gunfire. Though there were still some who took this time to rest and allow a moment of weakness. 

   Toying with a future trap her luminescent gaze wanders over to that who had given them freedom. Uldren is leaned back against a wall, arms cross and eyes closed. There’s a soft series of clicks as her toy is set down and Araskes stands. She looks around for a few seconds, picking things up and moving them about quietly. Satisfaction is met when a large cloth is located. It is decorated with the Scorn’s sign, relatively clean for what it is, and she drapes it over the Prince’s sleeping form.

     “...Agh. Blast. ” A gloved hand covered the open wound to his side as his ghost appeared from the particles of light, scanning and beginning to heal it. He sighed as the pain began to ease, white hues looking out at the bodies of Hive that had fallen at his feet. A smile.

     “ We did it, Torno. ” His finger came to tap his ghost on the top of its shell, giving a laugh though it be more of a chuckle as he done so. “ Many thanks, ol’ chap. I once again owe you one. How about when we get home, I go buy you more fur for your bed, yea ? ” 

     He continued laughing, cheering with his ghost with smiles and jokes, but the sound of rocks and pebbles being disturbed by the skid of a foot coming to a stop made him go quiet instantly.

      Torno disappeared, Jexs fists tightening as his back his the wall behind him, hand canon being loaded as quietly as possible before.. one.. two.. three- 

     The titan WHIPPED around the corner, his hand canon coming to meet with the Princes gaze. “ Ah- ”  He froze. “ Prince, Uldren ? ” Slowly, his weapon was lowered. A light sigh of relief, but as fast as their eyes locked with one another, the memories began to hit him, causing his throat to clear and posture to straighten. “ Forgive me, your highness, for the hostility. ”

The vast depths of space were about as close to home as Veles imagined a home should feel like. She was no Awoken, nor anything beyond terrestrial, but her attunement to the void brought her more peace the farther she went. Shied away from the sun’s rays where she could manage it, away from the pulsing of planet bound storms, she was better off in places where the juxtaposition of her lot in Light felt natural. One of her favorite places to hide for a spell was the Asteroid Belt.

Places she could thrive in shadows as a Hunter of her caliber ought, where the unfeeling vacuum forever coiling through her body felt less dangerous and more natural. Not the same Reef other Guardians had bustled through in the past, nor more commonly trampled chained together asteroids. Places quiet and relatively untouched were luxurious to the Hunter, sprawled out across hardened rock to simply be. To watch gaseous clouds of heather twist and shift between each mass and imagine her own Light being so beautifully complex.

Allowing her void energies to form a gentle lattice around her chosen resting place was not only comfortable, but, it would seem, useful. At the farthest edges of her frayed netting, she could feel...something, someone, and all at once her Light was snapped back into herself. Veles more scrambled to her feet than rose with the supposed grace her class boasted, shuffling backwards into a crevice with held breath, silently bidding her ghost to activate her HUD.

[ I’m not picking anything up, Veles. I think you’re just imagining things, come on now, out of the rock. All that time around the Taken on Io is making you paranoid. Literally nobody has any reason to be out here. ]

hey whats up, this is my drabble in answer to @wasprince tearing out my soul. enjoy.

It’s not that he doesn’t notice the Eliksni lurking around the decaying throne, it’s that he opts to ignore them. They’re not threats to each other, both sides know that Uldren won’t allow it. Shaxx doesn’t care either way - he’s only here for Uldren, it’s all he’d ever be here for. The Dreaming City is haunted and cursed, his job was finished the second those ivory gates closed centuries ago, and whoever delves in there doesn’t deserve his protection no matter how much they beg. No, he comes simply as he is. The Dreaming City lost its Gatekeeper a long time ago.

Seeing Uldren lounging in that throne sparks something that isn’t quite ire but not quite pride. It settles in between, in the folds of his armor, causing him to sigh deeply, the sound expelling and echoing into the air with the softest hum trailing after it. Where had he gone wrong?

The Deepborn can only ever see the wide-eyed boy with golden eyes filled with unnatural hurt and bruises around his neck. A boy who needed to see that the world could indeed be softer than what he’s been taught and that forgiveness and tears are fit for a little prince. Shaxx remembers the blatant awe and shy curiosity that first day the boy found him at the ivory gates, ornate sword planted before him in a sturdy and unsettling stance. It did little to deter Uldren and Shaxx welcomed the child and his sister with open arms, spreading his Light to envelope them in a warmth the palace never gave them. And as they grow, his Light wove deeper into their souls, settling within the cracks their parents left behind and refused to fill, to fix.

“It is called kintsugi,” he explains gently as he holds out the restored blade to the awestruck boy. The gold fills the cracks where the blade had shattered, giving it a haunting aura as Shaxx sings softly and the eye on the hilt opens and the sword resonates in answer to the somber song. “The blade may never see battle again but we acknowledge the battles it has seen by highlighting where it had fallen.”

“Why do we show where it failed? Shouldn’t we praise its victories instead?” comes the small voice as a tiny hand runs over the blunt blade.

“All things have an end, little crow. If we forget the end then we would eventually forget the beginning. An immortal story of victories would never prepare one for inevitable defeat; perfection is a dream but practice brings us closer to its reality, if only just out of reach.” the Gatekeeper smiles at the confused frown, ruffling the Prince’s hair fondly. “Don’t overthink it, little one. The world is full of cracks and crevices, it’s simply up to us whether we wish to fill them with our love and care or not.”

As he puts the blade back on its pedestal, the Prince watches him in silent contemplation, and as they walk through the ornate halls, he asks quietly, “Am I cracked, Gatekeeper?”

Shaxx doesn’t falter in his stride but he feels a twinge in his heart, “We all are, in a way. But, do not worry, I promise to keep you whole, little crow.”

The memory stings fresh in his mind as he unsheathes the cracked sword. It glitters gold near its base where it has been painstakingly restored after hundreds of years once again, but it is no longer a blade of proper use, it never had been for such a long time.

No longer a weapon but a long forgotten key and even further forgotten history, Shaxx points the sword at the center of Uldren’s chest, wine red eyes locking with burnt orange and there’s a silent plea that seems to plague both sides. They’re gone in an instant, they both know that there can never be what once was. Not with the Dreaming City as it is, not while Uldren sits on that cursed throne.

“Kintsugi,” Uldren says slowly, recognition of the art form decorating the blade flickers across his face briefly. “Is there no lesson for this one, Gatekeeper?”

“No, my little crow, I’m sorry,” comes the whispered answer as the eye upon the hilt opens and the blade vibrates softly with a somber song. “I merely came to apologize… for I have to break my promise.”

And the Light in the cracked soul is torn away.

           hooded figure keeps its distance, uldren can’t see it but human’s eyes are narrowed behind his visor - grip firmly settled on the sidearm kept at his belt. andal didn’t often stray from earth. the moon, maybe. depending on where he was needed. but hunter doesn’t enjoy space ventures. much preferring to keep his feet firmly on solid ground. then again, when does he ever get to do what he likes to? nevertheless, shoulders are tight as free hand gestures and hunter dips in a highly sarcastic bow toward the other.
