Hi! I was wondering if you might know anything about an obscure silent actress named Gladys Leslie. I have never seen a film of hers, but I've been rather enamored of her ever since seeing her lovely face on a piece of sheet music a few years ago. I've tried doing a bit of research on her life and career but nothing has really come up. Just wondering if you knew of her, and if any of her films are surviving/available to watch :) Thanks for keeping up such a wonderful blog!
I hadn't heard of her, but just looked her up and I see what you mean - she is dazzling! Apparently her nickname was "The Girl With the Million Dollar Smile," which I love.
She was a leading lady for Houdini at one point, which means her performance in Haldane of the Secret Service is available in the collection Houdini: The Movie Star (which I totally haven't seen, I just saw that in the comments on the IMDb page:)). Timothy's Quest still exists, but I don't see it readily available to watch anywhere and she doesn't appear to have had a very large role in it, anyway. She was in The Vicar of Wakefield in 1917, and you can watch it on Vimeo. Her Beloved Enemy has one review on IMDb, which got me all excited until I saw the person says "lost, and not likely to be seen again." So...
I'll be on the lookout and if anything interesting pops up, I'll post it. Thanks for asking this, I kinda get stuck in a rut posting the same people all the time. :) And thank you for the compliment. Your blog is a favorite of mine, so it means a lot.
