QLs I watched this week #1
quite a few people are writing weekly retrospectives, and i thought doing this too might be fun, if only to keep better track of what i'm watching and what my thoughts are! this is just me putting my thoughts down right after watching the episodes, so the shows on the list will be in the order that i watched them, not in the order they aired.
i am so intrigued by everything that's happening. this show is a wild ride and i am enjoying every second of it! fortpeat are doing absolutely spectacular work, especially peat blows me away every single week, that scene in the rain was just 👌👌👌 chef's kiss. also, lesbian action in the pool! why is everyone fucking in pools lately? 😂 as much as that must suck like, physically, it looks good as hell.
THE SLAYAGE!!! oh my god i am already obsessed with it. i love literally every single character, i love the mess, i love that namtan and love made out in the very first episode, i love film as The Worst Person You Know, i love the visuals, i love everything. also, as i have said before, i would go straight for namtan. DAMN. 😵💫
4 Elements: The Earth episode 7
this show continues to be a bit slower than i would ideally like, but it's still very enjoyable. finally, rose and din have confessed their feelings and are now in their making out at every turn era. incredibly sad that din insisted she wanted rose's father's permission before consummating the marriage with rose because i think rose deserves getting 5 orgasms in a row from her hot wife every day. stop making her wait!! (also, din is stronger than any us marine for being able to resist temptation when her wife is moaning like that.)
this show continues to be hilariously nonsensical. i'm not even really sure what the plot is about at this point. uh, they're getting married? maybe? after officially dating for a day? you know what, sure. i'm having fun with this, but i don't think i am going to remember even a single detail about this show after it's done airing.
Girl From Nowhere The Reset episode 1
great visuals, great music, but revenge stories don't do anything for me. i just kept wishing for everyone to get a hug, including the bullies. i had to skip several of the violent scenes, and i don't think i'm going to watch the rest of this show. maybe i'll watch the episode made by p'waa if i'm in the mood for it, but let's see.
Every You Every Me episode 1
this show was stuck on my to watch list for literally over a year. after gfn, i was in the mood for something softer, and this first episode absolutely delivered! i knew going in this was going to be kind of an anthology series, so i expected a short and sweet plot. the first story was a sort of love in the air meets la pluie mashup, and it worked very well for me! i appreciated that they started with soulmates right out of the gate to set the tone for the rest of the show. unfortunately, the cute nerd lost his glasses towards the end, boo! other than that, a solid start.
My Gear And Your Gown episode 1
i don't even know. some dark impulse compelled me to put this on right before going to sleep. there are lots of older gmmtv shows i still want to watch, but for some reason my brain said "how about we watch something that's famously bad and that everyone hates". what can i say? it's bad. the one thing i'm taking away from it is that jj has not changed anything about his acting style in literally 6 years. i saw him do that exact same stuff last month. yikes.
My Gear And Your Gown episode 2
you know what, i am weirdly coming around to this show. i enjoyed this episode a lot more than i would have expected, and i am Intrigued. the thing about these old shows is that they couldn't rely on branded pairs to bring in viewers, so they had to tell an actual story. story-wise, there's a lot more happening here than on say, cat for cash. and i am interested in seeing how this will play out!
My Gear And Your Gown episodes 3-12
i started by saying, wait, is this show actually good? and ended up binging the entire thing in a single day. i cannot believe the internet lied to me about this one. this show is good, what else can i say? the characters are incredibly compelling. there's a frankness about sex that feels refreshing, even though the things that are actually depicted on screen are of course incredibly tame by today's standards (very similar to love by chance in this regard, which was also directed by p'new). the marcpawin chemistry really worked for me, but the true surprise of the show were aunfiat. i will be rotating them in my mind!
Fourever You season 2 episode 10/episode 2 of the ArthitDao arc
holy shit this arc is incredible. it's so fucking good. i was literally glued to the screen. the raw emotions??? these characters have edges and flaws and are all so lovable in their own ways—it's already really easy to see how arthit and dao are going to fit together, even though they've barely spoken. both of them not really showing their true emotions to their friend groups and barely holding on in private? arthit who's secretly so chock full of grief that it's threatening to choke him whenever he thinks about it? dao who is so used to The Horrors that even mutilated ghosts screaming at him don't even faze him? god. GOD. i am obsessed. they need to find each other AS SOON AS POSSIBLE or i will EXPLODE 😫😫😫
Every You Every Me episode 2
ah, i love boss/employee stories. this one is cute! i don't have much to say about it except that first is the puppiest puppy dog to end all puppy dog coded characters. i kept wanting to pet him. he was adorable!
Every You Every Me episode 3
i can't believe i accidentally watched the first episode of a two-parter right before bed! now i'm going to have to wait until tomorrow for the conclusion 😭😭 i am in love with these two actors. they're so versatile! will we ever see them in another show together? i certainly hope so 🙏
Every You Every Me episode 4
oh my god i am fully obsessed with it. oh my god. oh my god. i can't even put it into words. first of all, this tragic story has me by the THROAT but then ending it on the actors?? who are in the process of getting together??? now i need to know what the tea actually is!! i need a whole story about the actors behind the scenes! omg i am loving this show 😍😍😍
Every You Every Me episode 5
girl i am obsessed with it. ARGH. the iconic carrot scene?? the kink??? it's a really interesting choice to show stuff like the handcuffs and the little maid outfit not while they're "in use", so to speak, but having them casually be part of these characters' interactions.
Every You Every Me episode 6
ohhhh we're getting more of the behind the scenes storyline!! i am so intrigued. fiat looks incredible as the assistant director. immaculate vibes. the drama between pun and inn seems a bit surface level, but i'm hoping there's going to be a reveal that something more is going on.
Only Friends Dream On episode 3
WE ARE SOOOO BACK BABY!!! boston is here to cause problems on purpose and i LOVE HIMMMMMM 😍😍😍 i wish we could have actually seen tua and boston kiss but i guess the bl gods weren't smiling on us 😔 tua is the babiest babygirl and i adore him. dean is a mess and i love every second he is on screen. the rome and raffy handjob in the pool? raffy trying to stir up trouble but only managing to bring dean and jack closer together? i am obsessed. i am fucking obsessed. WE ARE SO FUCKING BACK!!!
idk. this show has kinda lost me a bit. it's mostly cute but in a way that doesn't really keep my attention, and then there's also supposedly very high stakes, but i don't know whether they're even that high because i don't think this show will end with jane and z broken up. this is what i like to call the "he's coming to me problem", where a show would massively benefit from being told as a tragedy, but due to marketing circumstances it's not allowed to be a tragedy, so the emotional stakes end up feeling meaningless. idk. maybe i am too harsh on this little show. i'm still having a mostly good time with it.
Every You Every Me episodes 7 + 8
unfortunately, this part of the show ended up falling a little bit flat for me. i'm still not quite sure why pun and inn even broke up in the first place (both times!!), so their reunions lacked substance to me. the one thing i'm taking away from this is the "give and take" challenge during the workshop in episode 7, if i ever do another community theater project, that could come in really handy.
overall, i really liked this show! i especially liked the little stories that stood on their own, the behind the scenes plot didn't add much imo. i'm hoping to see fiat in something again, after watching 2 whole shows with him this week i've become quite fond of him 🥰
I Wanna Be Sup'tar episode 6
this is another show that has kind of lost me. the episode was much too long, most of it didn't hit for me and i was very close to just turning it off and throwing in the towel. the last couple of minutes were fantastic, though. i think i'll stick it out, but this show had so much potential and i'm sad that it isn't as good as it could be.
insane. insane. absolutely fucking insane. dmd reminding us once again that they're some of the best in the business when it comes to sex scenes. also, the conversation after! i LOVE it when characters are frank with each other like that. it's so rare in bl! thank you dmd for giving us autistic4autistic yet again 🙏🙏💖💖 unfortunately, it seems like next week is going to be all about the flavorless ex trying to come between our two sweethearts, which is definitely not among the tropes i like, but oh well. we will survive.
Love You Teacher episode 1
a very promising start! as always when it comes to gmmtv, i am staying cautious. this could go south real fast. this first episode is really solid, though! perth and santa are amazing to watch, they've got the chemistry, the comedic timing, and the tragedy down. the show feels rather light on the whole, even though the subject matter is so serious, and this episode balances those emotions really well! i'm keeping my fingers crossed that this one will stay good, it would be a shame for this show to end up on the wasted potential pile.
Wedding Plan special episode
i just realized this morning that i had somehow accidentally missed this one while watching wedding plan last week! wedding plan is really not one of my favorite mame shows. in this special ep, there's a lot of yapping and banter that doesn't really go anywhere, i feel like this is a problem that keeps cropping up in the weaker mame plots. (just to reiterate, i LOVE mame!! some of her writing is literally galaxy tier perfection. unfortunately, some is not.) also unfortunately, mame's usual translator seems to have been on holiday for this one and the translation is riddled with errors like misgendering and misattribution of lines. that said, this episode has what is probably my favorite scene of the whole show, namely namnuea bowing to sailom after the wedding. both of these characters are a bit flavorless in general, but in this scene you really get the sense that this is important to namnuea as part of the ceremony and their partnership. i love seeing things like that.
My Romance Scammer episode 7
holy shit junior is so good. he is absolutely fucking amazing. this whole episode i was blown away by his acting, literally sitting there like 😮 completely enthralled. and mark is matching him beat for beat. INCREDIBLE. this whole show has me by the throat, i am obsessed with it. narratively, forcing pai to rely on tim after being disowned is a stroke of genius, honestly. love alert showed me that i don't really like it when the main couple isn't on screen together for a long time (though it was 100% narratively justified there), and this solution keeps the main cast together very neatly. ALSO. once again yunorth have my whole heart. that happy little "okay" before north jumped into yu's arms to kiss him?? I AM OBSESSED. I AM SO OBSESSED. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!!
The Masked Hearts episode 4
this had me go, wait, did i miss something? i thought we'd get to see more of the present timeline but this whole episode was set in the past. not that i'm complaining, i love the tragic love story arc! i'm not big on the Scheming Love Rival trope but hey, i got to see the guys dancing in their fancy costumes and make-up and that's basically all it takes to make me happy.
4 Elements: The Earth episode 8
this episode dragged a bit. imo it could have easily been cut down to an hour without losing anything of importance. that said, i didn't mind the length too much—not as much as some of the outrageous costuming choices, anyway. what on earth were those shoes?! and the visible bra underneath the wedding dress?!? the hell?? 😂😂 the nc scene was gorgeous, though. khun apple, i was not aware of your game! this is a woman who fucks women so good that all of them come back begging for more. man, i should call rewatch her (yyy) 🥺
mgayg put me in the mood to watch another one of the older gmmtv shows i still have on my list. basically the whole time was me just going "aw baby khaotung!! 🥹🥹🥹" because 2020 khaotung truly hits different. on a related note, i need to rewatch tonchon sometime soon! anyway, this episode was fun, i laughed a lot, but i'm not super sold on the main pairing yet—i don't like either one of them that much 😂 it's very weird seeing bright and win as just these two normal guys before they were catapulted into stardom. the only other show i've seen with win in a main role is enigma, and he was consistently the weakest part of that show, so i'm not having super high hopes for him. but i'll give him and this show a chance!
