QLs I Watched This Week #20
my immediate reactions to the shows i watched this week, in the order that i watched them! last week's post can be found here
i FINALLY got around to watching this!! i've been waiting almost a full week! and oh my god, leng is GLORIOUS. i am so enamored with him. i'm not sure about the main pairing yet—but then, they haven't really had any scenes together, so it's probably too early to judge. once again, it's unfortunate that only background characters are allowed to have blackened teeth. some day, i want to see a show where the mains all have blackened teeth, too! man suang really was ahead of its time. overall, this story is so similar to love upon a time that i fear it will have to compete with that, and since luat is one of the best shows i have ever watched, the bar is incredibly high here. let's see what this show is going to do!
lmao. making two actors share a hotel room so "they'll be better at intimate scenes" or whatever is so incredibly unprofessional that i can't even begin to articulate the many reasons why as an actor that should make you quit the project immediately. look, i am willing to excuse all kinds of shenanigans in bl but i'm always struggling with things that are set in the acting world, i just know too much about it because of my own job. but like. if you as a director don't even trust your actors to be able to act, quit your fucking job. 💀
there really is a psychological effect of playing someone's love interest—recently, a colleague told me about how she legitimately had butterflies in her stomach while kissing her co-star, even though both of them are in loving relationships and are not romantically interested in each other outside of work. playing intimate scenes does have physical and emotional effects on the actors involved, and i would love to see that explored in a show. but putting this kind of nonsense on top of it... well, maybe i'm just not in the mood.
i was bored and decided to keep watching. the masturbation scene was incredibly funny, gotta hand it to this show. it irks me a little bit that these guys are so young, because they both lack the gravitas and appropriate age to sell this story to me. in episode 1, zhang zhun was bemoaning how old he was and that this was his last chance at acting, and the guy playing him is fucking. 23 years old. BE SO FOR FUCKING REAL RIGHT NOW. 🙄 this would hit very different if they were both in their thirties! ollie is trying to sell this dark seducer type character and he is. fucking. TWENTY. i'm sorry but that's a Baby! let him try again when he is 35!
this show is so good. i don't have much to say. that death note shirt was a really funny choice, though of course yagami light's sense of "justice" is even more warped than the nekros copycat killer's. that said, i can't wait to see off murder some people. i bet that man looks good as hell deranged and covered in blood 🤓
Be My Player Two episode 2
out of everything i still have to watch, i opted for this show. it's funny, light and simple, exactly what i need to relax on a stressful day. jay and ben are SO ADORABLEEEEEEEEE I NEED TO PINCH THEIR LITTLE CHEEKSSSSSSSS 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 the traumatic lego backstory is exactly what i want from this show. there are so many dark shows airing rn, this is the perfect palate cleanser. my poor guy was traumatized by his lego tower falling down, however will he learn to enjoy competitions again? i cannot wait to find out 🤓
The Prosecutor's Proposal episodes 9 + 10 (finale)
i felt that the ending was a bit rushed, and i really would have liked to see another unhinged sex scene. i mean, the handcuffs were right there! 😫 but on the whole, a very nice show. the aesthetic and musical choices were incredibly up my alley.
Are The Sexy Buttocks Not Good? episode 1
one thing i can say for this show is that it's nice and short. tiny little bl pick-me-up, like doing a shot of unhinged horniness. i love that ai-kun was so straightforward about finding a hot older guy who can give him a prostate orgasm. i wish i could work towards my goals with as much clarity and dedication! also love how they both immediately caught feelings. this is the loser behavior i need to see on my screen 😌
the beginning of this episode was so fucking funny. having to adjust to life without running water and toilets would be a pain in the ass! the saddest moment in this whole show will be great getting rid of the bun, leng was looking amazing with the longer hair 😭😭 i love that great took one look at the servants' living conditions and was immediately like, this is not going to fly. mosquito nets for everybody! also it's kind of hilarious how the family literally performed a magic spell on gaew and now everyone is wondering how the hell his change of character happened. hmmmm maybe it was that magic spell? 😂
i love that this show knows exactly who its audience is: there is no reason for nakhun to wear his shirt unbuttoned all the way to his belly button with his chest glistening like that, except that there is EVERY reason for him to look like that for us, the viewers. this is gay media at its finest. also, an alpha giving his omega a blowjob while blindfolded?? this is also omegaverse media at its finest. boatoat are best when oat doms boat a little bit as we saw in the special episodes of my stubborn, so i am super happy to be getting that in this show, as well. i love that amintra is apparently in the habit of pulling guns on her own people. what a great work environment that must be 😂 but she is a #girlboss so i guess she gets a pass.
A Dog And A Plane episode 9
this show is mostly feel-good, but the story of akki and veha is really getting to me. i mean i guess the point of this show is that we never know what's going to happen, so we should make the best of the time we have, but i just want those two to be happy 😔 this is the first time i've seen the military draft depicted in a bl, and not exactly in a positive light at that. since when has this been allowed? 👀
Are The Sexy Buttocks Not Good episode 2
emotionally, this show is a bit all over the place. i don't really know why ainosuke does... any of the things he does. he doesn't really seem to be present in his own story. i mean, that could be caused by the episodes being so short and emotional developments happening so quickly, but i can't really follow his decision-making process at all.
The Edge of Horizon episode 6
oh this show is nail-biting!!! they're so happy and the whole time you know that some incredible angst is coming their way 😫😫😫 my god, innongsa are amazing together. i am obsessed with them and this show.
this might just be my favorite episode of this whole story, including me and thee. the way they dealt with peach's and plub's family trauma was absolutely STELLAR. mok getting actually pissed off when thee teased him about rome was HILARIOUS, i was screaming 😂😂😂 mok getting shot and rome killing a guy in retaliation... man, the way the show dealt with this somehow hit for me, even though they of course don't have the time to go into any psychological detail here. but simply the fact that plub saw a mental health professional afterwards was such an important reminder that even within the mafia setting of this story, seeing someone die like that is not easy on anyone. i could watch a whole show about rome and mok. they are just so 😵💫😵💫😵💫
i'm sorry but that shot of jay being completely naked, dripping wet, and picking up that book was so incredibly unserious 😂😂😂 why was that book even with them in the bathroom? then again, maybe jay is simply so rich that he doesn't care about water damage on his books 😂😂😂 unfortunately, the subtitles for this episode were really clunky in some places—not bad enough that it was actively distracting, but just not hitting the right tone and mood in english a lot of the time.
so much fuaiz in this episode!!! for meeeee!!! i have been blessed 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹 the scene where sunny was forced to kill someone?? but also the aftermath??????!??!??!?? fuaiz the actor that you are!!!!!!! 🙌🙌🙌 god, he is INCREDIBLE. i could sing his praises day and night.
okay so the main couple i'm honestly pretty meh about but. THE DADS?????? 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀 i think i'm getting to that age where dads in shows start to be my thing and these two unhinged fathers are incredibly compelling to me 🤓 also SINGCHIMON!!!!!! chimon is playing a teacher even though he is barely older than the other people in the cast, but i am not complaining. he is incredibly hot as a teacher, although i would of course expect an actual teacher to not let two guys play dodge ball for like an hour while everyone else is bored to death. but teacher!chimon/"i don't know what to do with my life"!sing are an incredibly promising second couple 👀👀👀
Don't Be Too Emotional episode 5
oh man. as always, this show isn't toxic enough for my tastes. am i the only one who wanted p'jane to actually force himself on n'jane? and for them to have to deal with the emotional fallout from that? maybe n'jane could have secretly enjoyed it and be incredibly conflicted about it... sorry, i'm writing fanfic here. this show is obviously not interested in exploring that angle in more detail. i'm honestly not quite sure what exactly the show is interested in exploring, because it's not exploring the draw of an actual dark, possessive romance, but so far it's also not exploring anything else, really. i feel like this is a problem i've seen with tee bundit's work before, where he never actually dares to explore the darker areas of his own narratives. i could forgive this weakness in jack & joker simply because j&j had so many other draws and there were actual topics explored, but here, there is sadly nothing to make up for the lack of toxic yaoi.
