MerMay - Day 4 - Star Wars Day- READ THE STORY 👇🏻 In the village of Taedmorden, there was a stone that famously could not be moved. Countless dark-dwellers tried, but no matter what magical might or ingenious invention came its way, the stone remained—immovable. The young merman Pyrhos was born to an illustrious clan as well-known as the stone. He grew up hearing the stories of his ancestors, how Ithos the Interesting had developed the spell to cure headaches, how Manos the Magnificent had fought off an entire army of gigantic electric eels with only the magical power of her left pinky finger. Stories were a popular villager’s currency, magical potential a magician's ticket to greatness. Pyrhos had, unfortunately, neither, so greatness and popularity eluded him. Even the most basic magic spells failed him—or he failed them. He no longer knew which was the case. Others cajoled him, called him Pyrhos the Pathetic. His family believed in him, knew that someday his magic would manifest, but Pyrhos had lost something essential to making that come true: the power to believe in himself. As a pittance, Pyrhos was given the job of cleaning the stone that could not be moved. He polished it daily, memorized the history of it, and watched day after day as his peers would attempt to move it in vain. "Oh, how I wish I could move this immovable stone..." he thought to himself. "Perhaps then I would not be mocked and pitied so!" Pyrhos gave the stone a spiteful slap of his cleaning rag one afternoon...and lo! The stone that could not be moved began to roll away! Pyrhos watched with speechless wonder as the stone barreled down the hill atop which it sat, but his feeling of triumph was short-lived. The stone soon stopped upon an integral vent in the ocean floor that provided nutrients and mana to the entire village. With the vent blocked, they could not thrive. "What have you done, poor Pyrhos!" his cousins cried. "How did you move the stone? Remember...! Perhaps you might move it back!" A warm hand touched his shoulder, pushed him forward. “Did I truly move the stone?” Believing so, Pyrhos regained some of his long-lost confidence. He closed his eyes and remembered the moment he'd given the stone that fateful slap. Within that action had been his own magic: the magic of force, long unrealized. It was with that force magic—and his cleaning rag—that Pyrhos mightily moved the immovable stone back, saving Taedmorden.
