"Hello," he all but snapped in her face. "Why is your dad a bad person?"
The poor girl was trying to crush a baggie of digestive biscuits with a rolling pin when she found herself assailed by this invasive question, and looked up at Sirius in alarm. Remarkably, she didn't hit him with her handy kitchen implement. "I'm sorry, what?"
Sirius gestured between them with one hand. "We're bonding."
"We are?"
"Yeah, I came to help. Even brought an apron. Here." He reached into the LRB canvas bag he'd hung over one arm and unfurled the apron like a magician. "It's got a fun slogan on it. Look. Kiss the cook."
"I won't, if you don't mind."
"It's purely rhetorical. What are you making?"
Lily poked her baggie of biscuits with the end of the rolling pin. "Chocolate tiffin."
"You putting raisins in?"
"Do I look like a philistine to you?"
"Oh, good. It's alright. She's not putting raisins in!" he shouted across the kitchen at James, who was frozen on the spot in his embarrassment.
I would love to see WATJP as a movie!! Like a cute coming of age romance would be 😙👌 it’s such a sweet fic and the world you’ve built within it is already so rich i love it a lot and would watch that movie over and over again
Awwww I miss WATJP. It has to be next on the list once CYOA is done and I get a bit further into noob. I love that story so much, and it still percolates in my head a lot.
Rereading WATJP and I'm at the flashback where Remus is in the hospital and they're planning a meal for him, and James says he doesn't like chocolate. I'm pretty sure this is the first fic I've ever read where Remus isn't obsessed with chocolate and I wondered if that was deliberate? Either way, it was very refreshing 😅
Yeah it was deliberate, lol. I always found it weird that people would write Remus as a chocoholic based on the fact that he happened to know that chocolate could counteract the effects of a Dementor attack. It seemed like a wild leap, so I've actively pulled against it on more than one occasion 😂
just reread all of WATJP and wowww iam once again struck by how impeccably it captures that feeling of having a crush that’s actually going somewhere!! the “let’s compete to trade good deeds towards each other”; the “send me pics of you(r cat) or else”; the “she waited until i passed by the front of her house on my walk to school before she oh-so-coincidentally left”; the plan on his part to carry her backpack from the moment they settled upon that wall and she caught on as soon as he put it to action—this whole thing! love it, love the scene work, love the overarching premise. that’s all

Coincidentally began reading WATJP this Saturday (otherwise known as the day Arsenal lost the Champions League to PSG) and fear it is what brought great misfortune upon the Gunners… (nay, my ego is normal-sized)
Naturally cannot begin to imagine the state of despair our melodramatic king JP must be in. An absolute shambles, Pompeii and the Acropolis had not looked so pristine in a while.
But if anything, this sudden flair for dramatics and my immediately taking it upon myself to communalize your protagonist ought to be any indication of how brilliantly funny your story and characters are!!??

This ask was great. It made me laugh and I read it down the phone to my brother (also an Arsenal fan, hence my James supports them in his honour) and it made him laugh too. You're a with and a hoot, feel free to send more whenever I need cheering up.
I think James would be more of a shambles if Arsenal hadn't won the Premier League, but since they did, he would have attended the victory parade on Sunday in good spirits and sang Norrrrrrrrth London Foreverrrrrrrrrr along with the rest of the fans (I always write him as being from West London–at least, I do when I make London his home city–but who's he gonna support? Fulham? God forbid, CHELSEA? Not on my watch!)
