A portrait wax - in miniature, the figure is only 4 1/2 inches high. Sculpted in wax by Franz Xaver Neuberger in 1841, not only is the model frighteningly alive, the epaulettes and tiny medals are real. The subject, William I of Wurttemberg, was absolutely as sinister as his image. A great general and good king, he abused 3 wives, causing the death of one. Unrepentant until the end, William’s last will and testament provided only for his mistresses. .
