i loooveee that panel of akari looking stern and strong after her father and mitsuki both have walked off
i love that NII-sensei very much seems to be setting up for mitsuki's interpretation of akari as someone 'who just laughs things off' (i.e as someone who's 'weak') to be challenged and disproven
just, there's lots of shitty narratives around domestic/child abuse victims and what standing up to your abuser is 'supposed' to look like
so i love that NII-sensei is clearly showing that, whilst she's not as confrontational as mitsuki, she is standing up for herself in her own way
i actually quite like that there's a bit of cognitive dissonance there with mitsuki, he doesn't view his own femininity or femininity in general as a weakness and self proffesedly hates 'outdated thinking'
and yet he inadvertedly looks at how akari (and he himself) handles their father's abuse and deems it weak willed or insufficient
hypocrisy makes a character interesting!
based on the last page of the chapter it seems like sakura is gonna have some 1-on-1 interactions with akari and probably learn about how she's her own kind of tough
and in turn so will mitsuki, and he'll most likely gained a new-found apreciation for akari, and how her will is different to but no less resolute than his own
speaking of sakura, all this is definitely brining up memories of the past for him
im interested to learn how much his own situation growing up mirrored or differed that of the kiryu siblings'
a few people have already pointed this out already but mitsuki's attentiveness towards girls, ESPECIALLY that moment at muscle power when tsuge was yelling and unintentionally startled the girl mitsuki was with, is recontextualised by this chapter and his relationship with akari and just aaauughhh i love him sm hes so sweet
that one panel of the boys watching the kiryu siblings argue with their dad is so good jgfghjhg
its like 50% tsuge and nirei holding sakura back from going out there to throw hands, and like 50% those two bleeding hearts hugging him for comfort
i think this chapter is pretty damn realistic too, both in general and to japanese culture more specifically, the other boys are clearly upset by the situation they've witnessed but they also feel that it's not their place to comment on someone else's family, i appreciate that nuance
idk, just, overall a really great chapter, very excited for where this arc is gonna go
amazing
MY KIRYUSAKU FIC WAS INSTANTLY DEBUNKED LMAO BUT I'M NOT COMPLAINING SQUEEEEE (≧∇≦)✨❤
