“When a baby suckles at its mother's breast, a vacuum is created. Within that vacuum, the infant's saliva is sucked back into the mother's nipple, where receptors in her mammary gland read its signals. This "baby spit backwash," as she delightfully describes it, contains information about the baby's immune status. Everything scientists know about physiology indicates that baby spit backwash is one of the ways that breast milk adjusts its immunological composition. If the mammary gland receptors detect the presence of pathogens, they compel the mother's body to produce antibodies to fight it, and those antibodies travel through breast milk back into the baby's body, where they target the infection.” . . . . . . . . . #WorldBreastfeedingWeek #WBW2019 #WBW #NBM #breastfeedingphotography #breastfeedwithoutfear #breastfed #breastfeedingawareness #breastfedtoddler #normalizebreastfeeding #breastfeedingmagazine #milkymama #mothersmilk #breastfeedingmama #breastfeeding #motheranddaughter #nurture #breastfeedingworld #southfloridaphotographer #bocaratonphotographer #Repost @nickyrhea • • • • • • https://www.instagram.com/p/B3huyO1H9kN/?igshid=1uhmy856l2z8w
Empower Parents, Enable Breastfeeding! • The #WBW2019 slogan was chosen to be inclusive of all types of parents in today’s world. Focusing on supporting both parents to be empowered is vital in order to realise their breastfeeding goals. • Empowerment is a process that requires evidence-based unbiased information and support to create the enabling environment where mothers can breastfeed optimally. Breastfeeding is in the mother’s domain and when fathers, partners, families, workplaces, and communities support her, breastfeeding improves. • We can all support this process, as breastfeeding is a team effort. To enable breastfeeding we all need to protect, promote and support it. • Find out more at @waba_global or http://worldbreastfeedingweek.org/ (at Utah) https://www.instagram.com/p/B04RDy4ACTU/?igshid=155oneewb0lpn
#Repost @donaintl • • • • • • Breastfeeding looks very different depending on the needs of your baby and family, your milk supply, your personal goals, and just how your life works. Sometimes it is all breast milk from the breast, sometimes you add pumping, sometimes there's some cup feeding or other assistance, and sometimes it's a mixture of breast milk. A doula will support what's right for you, your baby, and your family.⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #breastfeeding #doula #doulasupport #WBW2019 #WBW19 #WABA #EmpowerParentsEnableBreastfeeding #breastfeeding #SDGs #worldbreastfeedingweek2019 #bfing #breastmilk https://www.instagram.com/p/B0wvSCZgAYe/?igshid=13lz37e6mklaj
Sometimes breastfeeding looks like this. We are at a settled, low drama moment in our breastfeeding journey. I haven't particularly felt trapped, drained or bored. I haven't felt sore, bruised or mawled. I don't feel lonely or used up, I don't feel low or nothing at all. It comforts us when we feel tired or far apart; when we've had a hard day or need to know that we are all we need for now. It's gets us through illness when nothing else is eaten and I can't get my hands free long enough to create anything remotely tempting anyway. It helps us to drift off, but we can sleep without it. And we still prefer to sleep cheek to cheek either way. As long as it doesn't have to be every day. I hoped I would breastfeed to 6 months. I was not prepared, but I was lucky, supported and bloody minded. We have gone through weeks of tricky times, but more than anything it has been a joy, easy and the right thing. It works. In so many ways, on so many levels. I've just noticed, I once felt shame about feeding past 6 months, and now, at 22 months I just feel proud and happy. Happy #WBW2019 **Please don't follow our v lazy terrible toddler feeding form! My nipples are now effectively those jelly men you can stretch and chuck at windows. He has been known to try to eat a biscuit while nursing 🙄 it's all sorts of terrible. And also fantastic. (at Kent, Kent, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0qgxx2Aw5-/?igshid=ptagtkh1b2ff
