[enneagramphilosophy]

So I have a question regarding the Instinctual Variants, I'm a little lost on it. I know that based off of the Myers-Briggs test I'm an ENFJ-A known as The Commander and with my placement on the enneagram I'm 8w7. I'm not sure if the Keirsley test has much help to it however I'm placed as The Idealist. I'm wanting to know more about my tri-type and to gain a deeper understanding of how to go about life being The Challenger point of the Enneagram, as well as progressing vs regressing. Thanks!

There’s a lot to know! I’d recommend having a read of this article, written by a Type 8 themselves, as it goes into the depths of the personality. Each basic type has quite a bit of diversity within it, so the instinctual variants cover an aspect of that, how our dominant instinctual drive (sexual, social, self-preserving) can interact with our enneagram motivation to produce certain behaviours and personalities. Given your MBTI type I’d say the social subtype is most likely. My advice would be before delving into tritype, get a very good understanding of the social 8 within your own personality. It’ll make it easier to differentiate the aspects which tritype covers (and often their is some overlap)
