trinity_fatu: ooh girl!!
uceyjucey: answer the phone... now
Lillah smirked to herself as she ignored another one of Josh’s phone calls. She didn’t bother declining. Let it ring. Let him squirm.
She leaned back against the velvet cushions, scrolling casually through the comments pouring in beneath the photos she’d just posted. The pictures had originally been for his eyes only. But that was before he soft-launched betrayal on his story—Puerto Rico, of all places. Not a selfie, not even his face, just a sleek table for two: twin cocktails beading with condensation,
He hadn’t even bothered to crop the second glass out.
She let out a loud sigh as her phone started ringing again; this time it was a FaceTime call. Forcing a smile on her face, she answered the call and was immediately met with Josh glaring at her.
“You don’t know how to answer a phone?” He gritted out, and Lillah rolled her eyes.
“How’s Puerto Rico?”
Josh sucked his teeth. “Man, thats whatchu’ pissed about? You knew I was coming down here to train with homeboy.”
“Mmhm.” Lillah rolled her eyes. “Homebody like fruity drinks too?”
Josh’s jaw tightened, the corner of his mouth twitching like he wanted to say something but thought better of it.
“You know what,” he started, shaking his head, “you always jumpin’ to conclusions. Out here posting thirst traps instead of just askin’ who I was with.”
“Oh, I know who you were with.” She scoffed. “Some bitch who can only handle fruity drink.”
Josh huffed. “You deadass think i’d cheat on you, Lilly? After all the hoops I had to go through just to be ya’ man?”
Lillah shrugged, her oversized sweater falling off her shoulder. “Maybe you liked the chase more.”
“Damn.” Josh muttered, scoffing as he looked out into the ocean. “Thats whatchu’ think of me huh?” When Lillah didn’t say anything Josh huffed. “Ight Lilly.” He shook his head. “You got it.” He scrubbed a habd down his face. “Believe what you want. I ain’t explaining myself to someone who already decided I’m guilty.”
She opened her mouth, ready to fire back, but he ended the call. “Dickhead.” She muttered and threw her phone down on the couch next to her.
It had been three days since Josh and Lillah’s last conversation. He had tried to call back multiple times but was met with her voicemail; she blocked him.
Tonight was Saturday Night Main Event, meaning they had to see each other tonight. She sat backstage, eyes laser-focused on the swinging machine as she finished the final touches on his gear for the night.
Her body sensed him before her eyes could see him. She didn’t look up, but her spine straightened slightly, and her heart started to beat a little faster. She could feel his eyes on her as she turned the sewing machine off. He didn’t speak right away. He never did when he was trying to read her mood.
Lillah stood slowly, gathering the gear with careful hands. She zipped it into the black garment bag, “Here,” She said. still not looking at him.
“You’n got nothing to say to me?” Josh asked, and Lillah shrugged one shoulder.
“I said everything I had to say the other day.”
“So, this how you doing it?” Josh scoffed. “I told you what it was, and you still don’t believe me.” Lillah didn’t say anything; she rolled her eyes and walked over to the rack and pulled another superstar's gear off that needed improvement. “Man, you act like I been out here wildin’. I was with Homeboy and his team. We trained. We ate. That’s it.”
She didn’t even look at him. “So y’all train in candlelight now?”
Josh sucked his teeth. “C’mon, Lily, You bein’ real childish right now.”
“Then maybe you should date someone your own age, then, huh?” She shot back with an eye roll. “Look, just go on about your day, Joshua. Whatever we had it done with. I told you from day one I don’t do liars or cheaters, and you turned out to be both.”
Josh shook his head and laughed. “You know what, stay right here, don’t move.” He said as he turned on his heel and walked out of the room.
Lillah rolled her eyes. “Not the boss of me.” She said as she walked back over to her desk and threw the gear down. Josh was back, not even two minutes later, followed by Logan Paul and his camera crew.
“Help me explain that I ain’t have no other bitch in Puerto Rico.”
Logan laughed and looked over to Lillah. “Girl, all her could talk about was you and how he wished he could have brought you.”
Lillah blinked, lips parting just slightly in confusion. She stared at Josh, trying to see if Logan was lying. All she could see in his eyes was truthfulness. “Swear on everything,” Logan said, glancing between them. “That second drink in the picture? It was my wife’s. Nina was sittin’ right across from J-money here.”
Lillah’s eyes furrowed in confusion. “Who the fuck -”
Josh cut her off. “Don’t,” he laughed.
“Trust me,” Logan said, bringing Lillah’s attention back to him. “If we weren’t training, he was talking about you.”
Lillah’s eyes flickered between them. Her jaw stayed tight, but the fire behind it had dimmed. “You still should’ve said something,” she said to Josh, quieter this time. “Letting me find out through social like that... it made me feel stupid.”
Josh gave Logan a nod. Logan and his crew left without another word. Josh waited until the door closed behind them.
“I was tryna’ explain everything but you pissed me off by postin’ those pictures.”
Lillah scoffed. “So you just let me think you had another bitch with you?”
“I didn’t let you think anything,” he said, his voice a little lower now, more careful. “I just… I ain’t think I had to spell it out for you, Lillah. I figured you’d know me better than that.”
Lillah’s eyes narrowed. “So now it’s my fault?”
“Nah, I didn’t say that,” he shot back, but there was no heat in it. “I’m saying I should’ve been clearer. I should’ve texted, called, something. But I didn’t, and that’s on me.”
She crossed her arms and scoffed. “Yeah, it is.”
Josh nodded, letting the silence stretch a beat. “But I ain’t out here playin’ you, Lillah. Never have. Never will”
She didn’t respond right away, just studied him like she was trying to stitch together the truth from his words the way she did with thread and fabric. “I’m sorry.” She muttered, her shoulders sagging as all the anger left her body.
Josh, being the ass that he is, cupped his hand around his ear. “I’m sorry. I ain’t hear you.” He tried to suppress his smile.
Lillah’s head snapped up, eyes narrowing instantly. “Don’t push it.”
Josh chuckled and took a step closer to her. Gently taking her hands into his own. “I’m sorry too. I should’ve handled it differently. I know that.”
“I don’t want you to find someone your age.” She whispered, and Josh laughed.
“Good. 'Cause I already got everything I want right here.” He leaned in just enough to feel her breath hitch. “Now,” he added, voice dropping to that low, smug rumble she loved and hated, “go ahead and give daddy a kiss.”
Lillah rolled her eyes. “You get on my damn nerves.” She said with a grin on her face, and she stood on her tippy toes and wrapped her arms around his neck. Josh’s hands tightened gently on her waist as he pulled her closer. When their lips met, it was slow and deliberate. His lips moved against hers with a confident ease, like he’d been waiting for this moment longer than he let on.
Lillah’s hands tightened around his neck, fingers threading through the short curls at the nape. Josh deepened the kiss, his thumb brushing over her cheek, grounding them both in the now.
When they finally broke apart, their foreheads rested together, breaths still mingling.
“I’m not letting you go,” Josh whispered, voice rough but certain.
“Good.” She muttered, pulling him down to her and capturing his lips in a passionate kiss. When they finally parted, their breaths mingled, and Lillah rested her forehead against his.
“You’re mine,” Josh said, voice low and steady, like a promise.
Lillah smiled, wiping some of her gloss off his lips. “Always.”
