(Wisconsin) DNR analyzing impact of wolf hunt
December 30, 2012 11:05 am • RON SEELY
With Wisconsin’s first modern-day wolf hunt now history, biologists with the state Department of Natural Resources are already looking at the numbers, analyzing the impact of not only the 117 wolves killed during the season but also the 123 animals that died so far in 2012 in other ways.
Adrian Wydeven, a DNR ecologist who has overseen wolf recovery and studies the animals, said biologists have begun winter howling and tracking surveys that will allow them to determine the impact on the overall population of wolves as well as on individual packs. He said the data will also allow the agency to set population numbers and calculate whether the hunting season met the agency’s goal of reducing the statewide spring population — which is expected to be well over 1,000 wolves in the wake of breeding season — by about 10 percent.
I'm Spoiled
My boyfriend has a weekly radio show that I am the biggest fan of! Every Thursday night I tune in, sing along, and usually end up dancing around my room to some amazing music. If I'm in a bad mood he always finds the time to slip in a shout out to me or a special song that I know is about us. Since I've gotten to London though, my internet won't allow online streaming of his channel! When I figured this out I was devastated! Everyone who talked to me that night can probably tell you how disheartened I was. Thankfully, skype has allowed me to still listen in to every show! I get special treatment every week and get to listen in via skype from inside the station. I love that since I was so upset about it, he was able to fix everything so that I can still be there for his show, even an ocean away.
It might sound crazy that I'd stay up so late just to listen in, but it really is one of the highlights of my week. I wasn't feeling too great earlier and he felt bad that during his show he wouldn't be playing anything for me. Tonights theme was the top 10 guitar solos of all time. My favorite? It's gotta be Freebird! Yet even without time during his show to send some notes my way he was able to play some of my favorite tunes right before! It made my night that he wanted to make me happy and went out of his way to make sure I could not only listen in, but also hear some of my favorites. Thanks Mark for everything you do for me, I really am spoiled, but you really do know how to brighten my day!
