High school au? Where Wayhaught gets way caught by oblivious Wynonna making out in the library stacks
ok so i feel like waverly is the most obvs stereotypical cheerleader and nicole is the jock kinda lass so imma go with that, thank you for the prompt c:
Waverly sighed. Cheer practice was her favourite part of the day. Especially when it was set at the same time as lacrosse. Not that lacrosse was her thing, just that the players were. Or, well, one player in particular. Nicole Haught. Lived up to her name. Flaming hair, legs for days, and the cutest dimples you’d ever see. Waverly wasn’t very secretive about the crush. Nicole had caught her staring more than once but, thankfully, flashed a smile each time and waved. The cheer team often made fun of Waverly for being the most obvious hopeless romantic in the world. She didn’t care, though. She was tired of the constant hiding behind her sexuality. Freshman and sophomore year had been pure hell considering she decided to date the quarterback of the school’s football team. Hardy Champ. The most narrow-minded numbskull you could meet in the small town of Purgatory. He had cheated on Waverly apparently for the most part of their relationship. Most people would’ve found it devastating, but Waverly seized the opportunity and dumped his ass to be ‘a happy, single, Virgo’. Wasn’t looking like it’d last long…
Unfortunately, cheer practice had been canceled that Thursday afternoon nearing the end of May. Which meant Waverly would have no reasonable explanation to go to the field and watch hot and heavy lacrosse practice. She, therefore, decided to text Wynonna and tell her she was catching up on her studies in the library. Finals would be the last thing Waverly would want to miss. Especially since most of her time went into either cheer or working on cheers. So in the empty library, Waverly sat with her nose in her chemistry book, trying desperately to understand the formulas like she’d ever need to use them.
With a click the door carefully opened. Waverly quickly looked to see who else could possibly be here a sunny afternoon. She would definitely not come to regret staying in school as the red-head in the lacrosse uniform stuck her head out from behind the door.
“Hi, sorry, mind if I study here for a while?” Nicole asked swiftly knowing very well the library was basically empty and open for any student.
“No, not at all.” Waverly smiled and tried her best to slow her heart down as Nicole took the seat opposite from her. After a few minutes had passed Waverly sort of sighed in frustration.
“You okay there?” Nicole looked up from her laptop.
“What? Oh yeah. It’s just these darn formulas I can’t seem to understand.” Waverly let a small laugh escape as she brought her fingers through her hair.
“Anything I can help with?” Nicole asked but just as Waverly was about to kindly decline the red-head rose to walk around the table and have a look at what Waverly was doing.
“Oh, uh, it’s just the, uh…” Waverly lost the ability to formulate proper sentences as Nicole pulled up a chair to sit beside her. Their eyes locked to each other. “Aren’t you supposed to be at practice?” Waverly asked with a mere whisper as their faces came closer.
“It got canceled.” Nicole simply said before they closed the gap between them. There had been no doubt that they both had been crushing on each other. This only confirmed it. And as Nicole deepened the kiss Waverly gently tugged her lip to let their tongues intertwine. They heard a muffled voice in the background but too occupied to care until the door opened.
“Hey nerd, stop studying! I brought do…” Wynonna stopped in the middle of her sentence and covered her eyes with her hand already carrying a donut. “Oh, sorry, didn’t mean to disturb…” She was surprised yet again by the red-head moving aside to reveal a guilty looking Waverly with her lips pressed to a line.
“Hey, sis… you, uhm, you brought donuts.” the short girl tried to quickly gather her books and wrote her number on a note to leave on the table. Wynonna was at a loss of words with ‘confusion’ written across her face. “Call me.” Waverly whispered to Nicole as she got up to leave.
“Wh- I, uh, I could come back later…” Wynonna was still in shock.
“No, no, that’s okay. I have to get to lacrosse anyway.” Nicole said as Waverly looked at her in confusion and realization.
