Does it already hurt to OD from opiates or is it the (beautiful, necessary, lifesaving) Narcan part that hurts?
I can’t say I’ve personally OD’d on opiates, but from my understanding it’s not the opiates that hurt but the lack thereof when they wear off. Narcan completely overwhelms the brain’s opioid receptors, so it literally stops the high right then and there.
(Almost all my experience with narcan has been heroin or fent, so idk how it works for like, oxy, but I imagine it’s similar.)
But to answer your question - I think it’s just the ‘coming back to life’ that hurts. When someone overdoses on an opiate, they LITERALLY die; the drug will just keep repressing your nervous system to nothing.
When you get narcan, your body JOLTS awake from death; that’s the distressing part, I think. Sort of like a car crash - your body is okay going 70 mph, and your body is okay going 0 mph - but the ABRUPT CHANGE in speed kills you. Going from overdosing to sober (more or less) is a pretty traumatic thing for a body to go through (which is why you should still go to the hospital even if you’re feeling fine)
hey doc don't be mad but Maria (the first one) came back to life for some fucking reason and the only name she knows you by is the old one sooo... oops
