Autistic Charlie Weasley Headcanon - chew stim edition
Be it the corner of his blanket, his sleeves, the wings or tails of his stuffed dragon collection, and as he got older the ends of his quills, the tips of his quills (usually resulting in something of a mess), or his hands, he was nearly always chewing on something.
His stuffed dragons had been mended again and again, wings replaced and tails patched. His quilt (that had gone to Hogwarts with him and was now spread over the foot of his bed at the Reserve in Romania) had one corner that was in shreds. Just the one corner. The sleeves of his favorite jumpers had always been similarly tattered. His jumper sleeves got a bit of a reprieve after his uncle gave him a dragon hide bracelet for Christmas one year.
When they were young, Bill had teased him for sucking his thumb, a habit Bill had barely grown out of himself. But Charlie did hang onto that habit far longer than the others. Even after he’d stopped sucking his thumb, Charlie couldn’t sleep without his hand at his mouth. It was also something he’d do to soothe himself throughout the day. To this day, his family knew he was stressed about something when he’d start pressing on his lips or pressing his teeth against his knuckles.
Molly long ago gave up trying to keep things out of Charlie’s mouth, only intervening to stop him from chewing on things that might hurt him (see: that one time he got a hold of her wand; there were still marks from his little teeth carved into the wood).
my ongoing trend for 2024 seems to be "how hard can it be?" and vibing with it a surprising amount.
