You know what would be great to see in the Batman movie? Robin, and no I don’t mean a older teenager or an adult Robin that becomes Batman’s partner. I want an 8 year old Dick Grayson in the movie. Now, people might argue that that’s not doable but hear me out.
The DC universe is so hell bent on making Batman into this dark, grime, unapproachable character that they don’t realize that they made the same mistakes as the first creators of Batman. They made him into this sad, lonely man who has no friends and who is seriously just un-relatable (you know for a billionaire) and it just gets tiring reading or watching this sad man after a while.
So DC Movies, I’m begging you - learn from their mistake – I mean you don’t even have to find a solution, just follow their solution. Add a new character that can change his image.
Yes, add a traumatized 8 year old boy who has experienced the same tragedy as Batman and he would be the one to show a different side to Batman, not just this dark, sad hero who works alone but a real hero who wants to help people but has to be tough to do it.
I mean, Robin doesn’t even need to be in the whole movie, just add him at the end. You can still have your badass angsty crime fighter but then have him come home to his new ward.
Picture this:
Batman is in the cave taking out his armor, he’s exhausted as he reflects the night he’s had. All is quiet as he carefully changes back to his civilian persona. He slowly walks up the stairs to the secret entrance of the batcave and sees Alfred there waiting for him. Alfred asks him how the night is but Bruce asks “How is he?” which Alfred would reply “He’s been waiting for you sir.” Then Bruce looks behind Alfred and walks across the room to someone and kneels down and there we see, a tiny boy in pajamas with shiny blue eyes and a stuffed elephant in his hands. Bruce would say “Bad dream chum?” which Dick would nod and hug Bruce. Bruce would stand up with Dick in his arms as he walks towards the hallway. Our last scene would be Bruce Wayne’s back with Dick in his arms, while Dick looks back at the grandfather clock.
THAT’S IT.
Now, I’m not saying to make Dick Grayson as Robin at 8 years old because that would be insane, but that could set him up as Robin in the future. I mean he could train with Bruce and debut as Robin when he turns 13 or something. That would give him about 5 years of training before he starts, giving him enough credibility(?) to become Robin.
DC seriously, it worked for the comics in the 40’s, it will work in the movies. I mean everyone already knows about Robin, give the kid a chance and I’m sure you can bring in more kids and young adults into the DC universe.
