Currently writing a DCA story to explore their relationship (it has a romance endgame, but I don't think you can bottle down their relationship to one single word. Not lovers, not friends, not enemies, but a secret fourth thing: complicated), and...
I'm having fun exploring why I don't think a canon based body separation would work. They were salvaged (along with the glamrocks minus Freddy) and company decided to separate them, and it is heavily fucking them up. The story is from Moon's POV, and he's just going through the horrors of codependency right now while Sun appears to be fine.
I enjoy body separation AUs, I really do. They're fun! But boy, I have yet to see a story exploration where that is not the best choice, post non- consensual separation (because they're property)... so I'm writing a long oneshot right now. And it's so fun to explore their dynamic (especially from the POV of Moon, who is also coming to terms to all the shit he did, still conflicted because he can't fully view his actions as wrong yet, and with the added bonus of him having really seen Vanny as the only friend he could rely on for a long while, coupled with him no longer being able to feel Sun's thoughts and presence and believing Sun truly is better off without him inside his head).
Let's hope I don't lose motivation!
