By not tracking apps, or disabling the cookies are ways that a person can protect their data. Technology has made it easier to use on the go. Apps need us to function. Us using them make them stronger, even if we’re accepting things we didn’t read through before doing so. I have over 20 apps on my phone, which is average for smartphone users. Google tracks us accurately because it uses things like: our IP address, GPS signals, wifi, and apps we didn't even download willingly. Google states that we cannot shut them off.. With our use of wifi and location, even if we attempt to disable things, the information will not go away and is still trackable. It helps show them what we could be doing daily by looking at recurring events. With free wifi, it allows the businesses you visit to earn money and also allow you to become more trackable, as they can see your location. It does impact us individually, but nothing that we are aware of. No matter what we do to try and prevent the tracking, it will always be there as we have allowed these smartphone apps to do whatever they’d like with our information, tracking included. Episode 5: Big Data Inside the Algorithm Things to consider hitting on/noting: Algorithms can collect large masses of data and give accurate answers based on user input. Big data are large quantities of data that are used for analysis. Big data can be analyzed using algorithms to give back useful information on things and people. When clicking on a page cookies for ads run algorithms to determine what to market towards you. Myths give data a voice. Algorithms are used to determine bank loans. Because of 9/11 security has become much more stiff and the internet is much more regulated. There are now blurred lines between security and privacy. We are not able to have as much privacy because we need much more security and regulation. We are not using the tools we are given correctly and instead, we are using the tools in a way that is corroding a positive society.
