High Cost in Education
Do you believe university students should pay more for their tuition? This has been an issue regarding prices for colleges in today’s society and the reason why I chose this topic is because I am currently an university student and this applies to me.
Community college students tuition typically range from $0 to $3,000 a year. These prices are unbeatable compared to the university college prices which has a minimum of $9,000 per year. How are university education and community college education different enough for the price to vary? As I researched, community colleges offer classes that can be completed in 2 years or less (associate’s degree) while universities has a larger range of programs that takes 4+ years (bachelor’s degree) to complete. Although some of the classes in the 4-year colleges are longer, there are still general education classes that must taken within the first two years. Both schools cover majority of the same subjects so why charge more for students that  decide to attend an university? To add more to this point, four-year students have to purchase textbooks with their own money while two-year students books are free. This is very hypocritical and is an issue that need to be addressed.
Many people has created ways to save money on their tuition such as attending a community college for the first two years to complete general education classes, boost GPA or even because they need more time to prepare themselves then transfer to an university. However, sometimes when transferring, some credits don’t transfer simply because that class is not offered at the university. Which means more money has to be taken out of your pocket for possibly textbooks and for the class but also your time is being wasted.
In conclusion, many argued that the prices for college, particularly universities, can be lowered or at least include textbooks and other supplies that are needed. Petitions has been created but everything is still in process.
