Thank you to everyone has signed our petition, helped us rally, canvass the neighborhood, and advocate to the Police Chief & the Mayor. Our commission did the research and found that the Police Chief could deem an establishment is harmful, causes immediate danger to the community and close it down for a maximum of 96 hours. After that, the Alcohol Control Board must have hearing & make a ruling. When I initially campaigned for commissioner, I was asked what would I do to address the intersection of Malcolm X & Martin Luther King. I didn’t make any promises other than to do my best. Over the past few years I have facilitated the following: the streets repaved potholes fixed street signs fixed broken utility wires fixed multiple community clean ups fed the homeless registered people to vote and honestly that still wasn’t enough. When ABRA notified me that the license for Mart Liquors was up for renewal, I knew that this could be a major break through. It’s not the only answer or the best answer. However, it is a start in the right direction of cleaning this community up. The struggle is not over. The war is still happening. This is just one battle and it’s a small victory, but we will take it. I know many will try to give me the credit, however the credit belongs to all of the residents who haven’t given up and who kept the faith. 🙏🏿 To that I say, thank you all!
