Today's theme is #thriftytuesday, an opportunity to flex thrift coups, vintage treasures and secondhand sartorial splendour. For me, thrifting is about two things: Admittedly the first is the hunt for hidden gold, riffling through piles of rubbish to find that one elusive piece that makes it worthwhile. And it is amazing what you can find if you have the knowledge and put in the effort. As today's outfit demonstrates. Secondly, thrifting, vintage and secondhand is the true sustainable circular economy. Taking a garment and passing it on to a new wearer is zero waste recycling, and one of the very few actual examples, even though many in the garment industry would love your wallet to think otherwise. Sadly, huge amounts of donated garments are never given the opportunity to find a new owner, as they are sent to fibre recycling or landfill. A huge part of the reason for this is that the sheer volumes of discarded clothing are too much to handle and that so much of it is blended fibre fast fashion tat that was hardly fit for purpose the first time it was sold. For today's outfit, I have selected some of my best finds in recent years, and the amazing thing to consider is that my outlay for these quality shoes, trousers, shirt, vest and jacket all told came to less than the price of a new mid-range shirt.
