Weather, the great unifier
I have wondered why people are so obsessed with the weather and talk abut it so much. Here is my theory about it. Weather, everyone knows a thing or two about it, most people have strong opinions about it and are open to listening to other people’s opinions about it. The combination of these three features is so rare that I would argue it is the best topic to introduce during those awkward silences. The one problem though is that it doesn’t naturally lead to another line of conversation and there is only so much you can say about it. “what a beautiful day!” “such a crappy day” “oh, I think it is actually great, I love cloudy, rainy days” “ugh, its so dark and gloomy, I hate it” “what is the weather like in your hometown?” its hard to talk about it for more than 10 minutes, and there comes the awkward silence again. Dammit, will have to think of a better contender for the “always inject into awkward silences” title.
