I don't know the ingame mechanical reason as to why/how I think this happened,
but I find it kinda fascinating how Not Dreadful the companion charm/tool is in Silksong in comparison to its predecessor.
(Potentially inaccurate ramble incoming)
Like I used Grimmchild all the time in HK but, whilst I feel like I had better luck with it then most, that was mostly out of an emotional attachment (that's my kid!!) and not because I thought it was GOOD. (God forbid the accuracy of my kid)
And then you have the other two (?) of Weaversong and Glowing Womb which, at least in my own personal experience, did not really feel worth it - not enough of a damage output, Glowing Womb also draining SOUL from the user etc.
Even with the synergies to other charms, none of the Companion focused charms really felt worth being equipped.
There are so many good charms that use up two charm slots that it feels like these fell through the cracks.
MEANWHILE
The Cogflies are one of the best tools in Silksong, in my opinion.
Even without the Pollip Pouch poison boost, they feel really good to use.
I don't know if the damage output is higher or not, or if it's to do with the fact that you can send them out at will unlike the prior Charms, but they just work.
Also they're just adorable idk why but they are just precious to me
Okay I've gotten a fair way through Silksong and discovered some new secrets on the way (and gotten a little better at reading environmental storytelling!) and I'm having a lot more thoughts about the whole Weaver situation.
Specifically, the ones that fled to the Pale King, and the Weaver of Hallownest.
So, as far as I know, most of the Weavers left Pharloom and scattered across the world, right? And some ended up in Hallownest, being taken in by the Pale King and then offering their help when the Radiance started retaliating against him. But besides Herrah, they're almost nowhere to be found in Hallownest by the time Ghost gets there.
Almost.
In the Weavers' Den, if you can find it, is the Weaversong charm, which explains in its description why the sentient Weavers are gone save Herrah.
Silken charm containing a song of farewell, left by the Weavers who departed Hallownest for their old home.
They left, specifically for Pharloom. But now that we know the state of Pharloom and why they left it in the first place, it begs the question:
Why did they go back?
We don't see them at all in Silksong (at least as far as I know), and although they did have the means necessary to complete their plan in Hornet, she had never been to Pharloom before Silksong and was in Hallownest at the same time Ghost was. So if it was to enact their plan with her, then they would have taken her.
That question might be answered by the Cradle, specifically a room on the left side filled with cages similar to the one Hornet arrived in. A few have tags on them that can be read- tags that describe a partial Weaver, where they were kidnapped from, and how many of the Citadel's bugs were lost from their resistance. Although there's no outward evidence for what happened to those partial Weavers, or evidence that they were the ones from Hallownest, it's extremely likely that they were killed, given how few Weavers there are in Silksong at all and how some NPCs (like the Snail Shaman in Songclave) says they're thought to be extinct.
So it's possible that the Weavers who "departed for their old home", as the Charm says, were actually kidnapped and killed by the Citadel. If they left Hallownest attempting to escape both the Citadel's forces and the Infection, then that could even lead to at least one of the labels in the cage room describing one of them.
But not every single one left- for some reason or another, besides Hornet, there is one living Weaver left in Hallownest, sane and whole.
She appears‚ watching Ghost, when they first return near the exit to the Weavers' Den (usually after collecting the Weaversong Charm). But as they get closer, she turns tail and runs, disappearing out the door and never being seen again- even in Silksong.
So what happened to her?
Well, I have to assume (hope) she's still alive. The Weaversong Charm was likely actually hers, given by the other Weavers- to protect her from Infected bugs and the Citadel's forces, as well as to keep her company. The Charm's description assumes the bearer is lonely, so if she was left without her family besides Hornet- who, for a time, left Hallownest herself- it would absolutely make sense for it to be made to keep her company. She doesn't appear in Silksong, either, and there's no mention of a second Weaver in the Kingdom of the White Wyrm/Hallownest, so as far as we know, the Citadel may well be unaware of her existence (assuming she is still around). She might've been left to help care for Hornet, depending on how old she was when the other Weavers left. Or maybe to protect Herrah, but if that were true we probably would've fought her.
I really hope the Weaver of Hallownest shows up or is mentioned somewhere in one of the DLCs.
