Overshot Departures - Weaving With Janet Dawson

This looks like it is going to be a fantastic class. Janet is the person who taught me to weave (through her Craftsy class) and I've done free weave-alongs and her other overshot class (similar format to this class). The information is clear, the interface is pretty user friendly, and there's lots of space to ask questions and interact with other students. If you're comfortable weaving (there isn't space for teaching things like dressing your loom etc.) then I think you would get a lot of good out of this class.

So I'm using a combination of size 8 dmc perle cotton and 8/2 weaving yarn and it's going pretty well

This is a bit slower because there's so many more pins, but I love the look of it!

I'm also almost finished the weaving homework for this week

I'm supposed to cut it off and take measurements and wet finish and measure again, but I don't think I'm going to bother.

Unraveling Overshot - Weaving With Janet Dawson

NOW imagine that, instead of being dependent or frustrated or anxious, you truly GET overshot. You can glance at an overshot threading and instantly recognize which parts form the different motifs. You’re completely confident that you can follow the treadling easily and even work it out for yourself. When the instructions say “weave as drawn in,” your response is “Pff, no problem!” rather than “what the what!??” Best of all, you LOVE weaving overshot. You love it so much - and you know so many options for weaving it - that you can put one long warp and weave endless (but still coordinated!) variations without having to rethread your loom.

I am so excited for this class!!! Janet has been a friend of mine for years. I learned how to weave by following her “Floor Loom Weaving” class on Craftsy. She’s fun and relaxed and her teaching style is so easy to follow.

Now that CNCH 2016 is behind us ... it's official:  I'll be teaching at next year's CNCH 2017.  I'm so excited that it's going to be held at Asilomar Conference Grounds again next year!  I'll be teaching "The Unwoven Warp: Layering Sprang on Woven Cloth".   Keep the dates in mind; this is a wonderful retreat-like conference in a lovely Pacific coastal setting, and I'm sure there will be plenty of exciting workshops on offer.

I had a wonderful time with the Santa Cruz Handweavers last week.  To start with, my gracious host lives in a beautiful wooded area up in the hills.  This is a view from their deck - isn't that fantastic? Here is my class, busily weaving away.  This was the first time I've taught this workshop "The Unwoven Warp: Layering Sprang on Woven Cloth".  Everybody in the class was a trooper; they all were intrepid in trying this unusual technique. Don't they have a nice meeting place?  It's a community building in a pleasant park. Everyone was able to get in at least a  few sprang motifs by the end of the workshop. More student work.  I like how she's found a place to store her tools while she's away from the loom. Some students got creative with their sprang, and got new ideas to try. Interlaced sprang, and one worked with weft. Thank you Santa Cruz weavers for your hospitality and enthusiasm!
