How to Source Web Application Developers
Sourcing a professional is usually a matter of looking in the Yellow Pages. I have yet, however, to see a listing for professional web application developers. The truth is that these are a bunch of highly skilled people who are usually sought after by people who know how to find them. You would ordinarily find them within a firm of web developers or aligned to a particular web developer.
Sourcing web application developers may seem difficult but it need not be. The first person to ask for a recommendation would be your web designer. Being in the industry, he/ she is likely to have worked with several web application developers and, as a result, should be able to suggest someone that has the skills needed to develop a custom web application for you.
If you are, for whatever reason, unable to get a recommendation from your web designer or simply want another opinion, consult a business owner that you know who has recently had a website built or revamped. Speaking to an actual client of potential web application developers can be invaluable in deciding whether or not the developers would be a good fit for your needs. It will also give you a good idea of how competent they are and whether or not they can keep to a schedule.
You can also source web application developers through the internet. Be very careful with this option. Check the potential candidates carefully before making your final decision. Check out their websites – see how well the websites work, if there are broken links and how well all the animations work. Does the page load as it should? Are there a lot of pages under construction? If there are a lot of problems with the site or it seems static and boring, move on to the next site.
The next step is not to contact the web application developers but to run an internet search on the company name and the names of any of the developers you could pick up from the site. This way you should be able to see whether or not the company or developers have won awards. There may be complaints against the company on consumer watch sites so look carefully at those. If there is only one or two minor complaints, chances are the company is fine to work with. If there are a lot of complaints, however, you do not want to deal with them.
However you choose to source your developers, make sure you research them properly beforeemploying them to ensure a good outcome.
