The Neutral Corner, Chapter 13: "Amygdala"

Wow, I can't believe I'm about finish my first web comic. This comic started as an excuse to draw some bloody fist fights and boxing matches, and it sorta spiraled into this. I love it! Hopefully you guys do too.

Whether its the representation of MLM romance, the boxing matches, or coming of age story, I hope you're liking the Neutral Corner.

Written and drawn by me! Software used: Sketchbook Pro (which I heard is independent from Autodesk! So cool!)

I know something like this might come off as boring, but to be honest this exercise my friend gave me has helped me so much with my comic world-building. These artifact pages each represent the aesthetics and artisan products of the three major settings in my comic.

The first is the misty realm of the owl monks (shepherds, wraiths, reapers etc. they’re called by many names) so my focus was on developing an aesthetic that was cozy, yet somewhat alien and mysterious. The unnatural green light is a large part of their identity, and the lanterns are an important plot point. The souls of the dead in my story manifest as fireflies, and the monks collect them in lanterns with the use of their long tendrils stretching out across the landscape.

The second set are objects from the kingdom of Althea, a temperate southern country that boasts thriving agriculture as well as rich coastal trade routes. They are very religiously diverse and preoccupied with the arts and sciences.

Finally, there's the kingdom of Vosland, which stretches into the far north. They have a traditionally militant history and have made most of their wealth through mining and conquest. There are many old religions spread across the country in pockets but recent years have seen a widespread movement toward atheism.

I Forget Sometimes | a mini-comic

Had a go at making a mini-comic after getting more interested in graphic novels and webcomics recently - I still have a lot to learn, and there are things I would do differently next time, but this was a fun first attempt! I completed the initial drawings with a blue biro pen before scanning them into photoshop for final rendering.

Hi Mortality is a comic about death, mortality, and finding meaning in life with a sprinkle of drama and lgbt characters. It is set in a world where 50 years ago, many  children were genetically engineered or “perfected”. These children, and their children, are now dying young, from the same disease. Most do not make it past 25. Darcy Sharma is 24, and feels that life is pointless, until he meets someone in an extraordinary way, and realizes that life is only what you make of it. along with Darcy, the comic follows five other young adults as the struggle with love, life, and mortality.

Avatars: Colorado and Denmark I am so sorry that the comic is late YET AGAIN. 

2017 is just not State of Disunion’s year. I am struggling to balance life with a two year old with a suddenly, my job, and my art and I have yet to find a balance that allows for timely updates. 

I am ALMOST DONE with a full watercolor update, and I am plotting out two sketch updates, so there is work down the pike. But while I din the time to scan and letter those, please enjoy these little character sketches 

Colorado, because I just do not draw her enough and I apologize for that. I specifically working on some comic s with her. She is the other medical doctor in the comic, but because of her different religion, a lot of state’s went Minnesota for a long time (in reference to the Mt Sinai hospital, which has always been open to everyone, but in it’s early days, a lot of people went Nope, too Jewish. She also enjoys films, and is often taking notes from California and outdoor sports. The other Western states often snub her for being “Fake Western” but she is not actual fake Western and can rope and rodeo with the best of them, only her interests have moved on. She is friends with New York. Actually most of the States like her. Texas has a crush on her but won’t admit it. 

And Denmark, who I have zero comic planned for, but when i mentioned she was black, I got a request to draw her and figured why not, so now there is a Denmark design :)
