Rodale’s motto, adorning the main staircase of their Emmaus office, is “We inspire health, healing, happiness and love in the world. Starting with you.” Now, this may sound a bit cloying to some, but seeing those words every morning as I climb the stairs to my office makes me want to make better choices. I have always been a proponent of earth-friendly alternatives, steering clear of disposable anything, however Rodale, and Runner’s World, as a whole, has been very influential in my personal choices.
I am an advocate of self-love, but self love also includes being consistently healthy. We all know the struggles of ‘healthy eating’ and how, a lot of times, it does not last long. Rodale & Runner’s World has shown me that these sort of lifestyle changes are just that—changes to your life. Once you start realizing that being healthy and fit is a commitment for life, and not something you can do with a crash diet or a ‘detox.’ You realize how easy it is to make changes that make you feel better. If you put good in, you get good out. This always sounded like something fit people would say to make themselves feel better, but if you commit yourself to nutrient-dense and healthy foods, you realize that workouts are easier, you sleep better, and you have more energy.
I went into this internship thinking it was just that—an internship. I did not expect for Runner’s World to make me want to be a better version of myself, one that actually has started to enjoy running. Insane, I know. Runner’s World has not only taught me valuable professional skills, but has finally taught me the value of valuing your health; something, I know will be with me long after I finish working here.
