Update to web!Hypnotist

I have not done anything hypnosis related in a while, given that I've been busy with other things. Now, I've actually fixed two things which I've wanted to do for a while:

1) Better links to scripts On the technical side, the way of sharing scripts with web!Hypnotist has never been ideal. Before the solution was to encode the entire script in the browser link. Hence a link to a script could be thousands of characters long, which was a big problem when sharing a script. The link would get cut off by several web services, and URL shorteners would assume something weird was going on and just block my site completely. Several Tumblr-links have simply been broken because of this.

Now the hypnosis scripts are stored in a database instead, and the only thing the link contains is a short reference. This should work much better.

2) Autoplay of scripts Another new thing is the possibility to let the scripts autoplay when a link is opened. There is an option for that at least. When you save a script two links will be produced, one to open the script again like before and one for the script to autoplay upon open. This will hide all the GUI stuff, i.e. only show the images and play the sounds. Might be a good option when sharing a script with others.

Down again

So, my hosting has expired, and I the one I had was a bit too expensive to keep running. I’m looking around for a cheaper alternative, and may have one soon.

When I made web!Hypnotist, I didn’t even know if I would put it anywhere. It was simply a fun idea I wanted to try. I didn't even think it would lead anywhere, but after many hours of banging my head against the wall it suddenly was something that both spoke, showed visuals, played sound and could be used to create a hypnosis session. It was probably due to my total fascination with hypnosis, and unwillingness to give up on a project, that this actually became a thing.

At first, I only used it myself, wrote stuff I wanted to listen to, mostly in my own language (yes there actually is a hidden feature to enable speech in other languages which only works on a Mac). But I kind of thought it would be fun to share with others in the “hypnosis-community”.

I really wanted there to be some feature where you could share a script, without having to go through the tedious task of learning how to handle user accounts and save scripts files to the server. That's why I implemented a share-function which simply encodes the entire script into a URL-link. It's a smart solution, I think. The downside is REALLY long URL;s to the shared scripts. But it kind of works. And you can use a URL-shortener to make the link more post-friendly.

Another spin-off thing I did, inspired by an IRC-chat I was in, is this site. It will automatically play a random hypnosis script as the site opens. hypnotizeme.pw Some of the visuals are respectfully stolen from youmustobey.com
