Thinking about how Giacomo was scheming to somehow undercut/overthrow Geldoblame throughout the entirety of Baten Kaitos 1. I don't think this is acknowledged enough in the fandom.

In Diadem: Before going to the Shrine, Kalas and Xelha have a short conversation where she reveals she still has the Earth Sphere - the one Giacomo took from her during her brief captivity was a highly convincing dupe (glamored by a witch). Kalas is surprised this worked and says something to the effect of "really? Giacomo's not that stupid".

In Anuenue: Geldoblame reflects on Giacomo leaving Xelha alive and letting her get away. He says (exact dialog) "it's not like Giacomo to fail me thus". YMMV on whether Giacomo was fooled by the fake Earth Sphere or not, but he definitely left Xelha alive intentionally.

In Alfard on the Goldoba: Giacomo directly invites Kalas to join his side, only saying that he "has a plan" and needs Kalas to carry it out.

Judging by the fact that the Goldoba crash lands in the Nihal Desert after this, we can surmise Giacomo and his crew were following Geldoblame to Azha (it's said that Geldoblame left ahead of them on another ship). I've always wondered what Giacomo would've had Kalas do if Kalas agreed to hear out his plan.
