It's September and it's time for the showers to come to an end. But rain doesn't seem to want to leave Mumbai this year. It's been a week now and the showers have been with us throughout the day. Since BomVoyage didn't cover a post this monsoon on Mumbai rains, we felt this was our chance and it wasn't too late. What is it about rains in Mumbai that brings out such happiness on everyone's face?  The strong cool wind on your sunburnt and moist face feels like heaven.  Just when you thought this might be the best thing that has happened to you that day, rain drops on your body prove you so wrong! Rain tops it all and you feel so blessed to not mind standing just there, rooted to the ground and get drenched, happily, in the water. What makes Mumbai rains unique is that, in this city that never sleeps, rains are a beautiful excuse to stop for a moment and enjoy the precious gift of life. Today, it's raining here. We smell the wet earth - the best smell in the whole wide world. The smell that reminds us that we belong to the nature and Mumbai belongs to us. Powai lake is an artificial lake built by the British for over 214 years now. IIT Mumbai and NITE education Centres are situated around the lake. So after an exhausting session, a couple of minutes admiring the view makes your day a lot more better. Amphibians and acquatic plants are the common residents in this beautiful neighbourhood. Crocodiles, Kingfishers,White Browed bulbul and Falcon are some of the animals and birds spotted at the lake. Photographers have a gala time capturing the beautiful pink and purple balsam bushes which attract Honeybees, Bumblebees, Beetles and colourful Butterflies. Boating at the Powai lake is a very popular activity. It truly is a beautiful place to unwind after a hard day. ~Street Shopping~ Linking Road is one of the oldest shopping streets in Mumbai. It is situated between Bandra and Khar and there isn't a day when the street is not packed with a number of people. The huge variety from modern to traditional wear and accessories completes the entire stretch. Since it is right opposite R.D. National College, the street covers majority of the college crowd. College students prefer shopping here, as it is reasonably cheap and also keeps them updated with the latest trends. It is famous for a number of things but the collection of it's Footwear is absolutely outstanding. * JALEBI* While craving for a sweet dish, your first instinct might be to reach out for a candybar or some icecream, but you haven’t really tasted ‘sweet’ until you’ve tried Jalebi. It is a traditional dish that is an important part of many celebrations like birthdays, weddings  and festivals  like Dussehra,Diwali and many more. Said to be built in memory of a wealthy muslim merchant Sayyed Peer Haji Ali Bukhari, the Dargah is on an island off the coast of Worli, a suburb of Mumbai. There is a pathway to reach the Dargah which doesn't have any barricades and is open on either sides. Walking down the road, leading towards the Haji Ali Dargah makes one realize how important it is to have faith and hope in our lives. People have a belief and faith that if they pray and ask for something at the Dargah, very soon the wish will be fulfilled. The main attraction, especially for the followers and believers, is the Saints Tomb. The tomb is constructed and decorated with the art of glass work. Many visitors swear to have felt a powerful energy flowing from the tomb, which makes them go back to the place again and again. A trip to the Haji Ali Dargah would be ideal for the religiously inclined. The Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) – a real forest in the middle of the city , is therefore a great gift to the bustling city’s citizenry and the people on their part have preserved this sanctuary with utmost love and care. SGNP has a rich natural habitat and a wide range of birds and reptiles can be found here. The Buddhist caves at Kanheri are a must visit for anyone headed to the park for the first time.  The toy trains, boating and the tiger and lion safari are mostly attractions for families and kids. Masala dosa –Needless to say it is one of the most popular South Indian dosa varieties. Though the dish is from the South, the entire India is in love with it. It is one of the most popular breakfast dishes in Bombay as well.Crisp and thin pancakes made of a rice and urad dal batter, dosas can actually be very delicious. A walk through 175 year old - Khotachiwadi. Just behind the buzz and lights of Chowpatty beach is a village within the city. The village of Khotachiwadi- a historical area. Kothachiwadi is not only heritage bungalows with east-Indian occupants, but also is the mixture of diverse cultures coexisting peacefully. Once you enter, you will feel like you've entered a different world. Narrow winding lanes, centuries old colourful Konkan-Portuguese style architecture, a Catholic chapel with stone benches and street art for decor. One blink and you will miss a lane. The village is in essence a capsule of the transition from Bombay to Mumbai. James Ferreira, a resident of Kothachiwadi has been fighting the illegal takeover bid of the village.
