brows furrow over peering eyes, focused on the most miniscule of changes in wednesdays expression. he'd always liked to think he could read a person just by looking at them, see all the truth in their eyes alone. with her however, it was a different story. he couldn't even pretend to know what was going on inside of that macabre head, not for a lack of trying. he keeps steady, aiming for as close to accurate read as possible before opening his mouth. for a person who made many comments without thinking them through, always hoping he'd land in the ballpark of where he was aiming, xavier wasn't particularly in the mood to get shut down again.
" what's wrong ? " what was hopefully not a downright stupid question to ask, immediately had follow up as his back straightened out to see her at a slightly different angle. " are you hurt ? " there was a part of him that wanted to take credit for being able to figure out the cause of her unfamiliarly strained disposition or by simply knowing her well enough. however while a thought or intention was easy to hide behind faces & words, a large wound dripping blood onto the hardwood was far less inconspicuous. & the latter was more than likely to be the key to him putting puzzle pieces together.
" wednesday, what happened to you ? why --- ? " his tone shifted from curiosity to concern followed by a heavy sigh, as xavier took several steps closer to investigate first what looked like a nasty injury, then her eyes once more. voice silences, his expression pleading with her to give some kind of real answer as to what happened, & why she didn't speak up sooner. if she could even decipher that that was what he was asking from his expression & fumbling of words alone. whether or not she'd share that information was her choice, but he wouldn't take no answers laying down.
