HER SMILE DIDN’T LEAVE HER LIPS, BUT IT DID FALTER a little. Robin looked away, and leaned back against a nearby railing. Blues took in the campgrounds with a deep sigh, “ Too much has changed. Sure. That I can agree with you. It’s always changing. Maybe you can’t go back to those happy days, but you certainly can make them now. ” Robin had no idea what caused such heartache, but she’d do what she could.

𖤐 ⸻ lips wrapped around the clear tube of the blood bag she held as she made way towards the lake . lights were out and as far as she knew , the campers and the majority of the counselors were off to bed. which gave her the perfect chance to relax and have some down time. late nights , often spent laying on the pier over the water and looking at the stars. it was peaceful . not to mention , the eerie silence beat the loudness that went on during the day. footsteps though , came to halt when enhanced hearing caught onto a noise that she had never heard before. hand brushed hair back behind her ears before she began towards the woods, where it came from. lips pressed tightly and to say that her nerves were on edge was an understatement. she could see something - ahead. thanks to the moonlight that shined through the trees. and the closer she got to it , the faster her heart raced. until finally , she reached a few feet from it . head snapping back towards her. and that very same heart , jumped. she had never seen anything like it before. no face. no mouth. and claws that were oddly remarkable. still , she felt scared. the first time in a long time. bright blues stayed glued onto the creature before she slowly squatted down. "aren't you something . . . " caroline whispered . " i'm not going to hurt you. "

THIS PREY— NO. THIS SOMETHING DIDN’T FEAR IT. THE CREATURE did not fear her either. Something about her felt… the same. Otherworldly. Very slowly, it started to stand. Lanky figure now revealed: long limbs, body slick, and fingers flexed at its side. It towared, almost eight feet or more. It took steady steps towards her to close the distance. No malice within its movements, but curious. It lowered it’s body once again to crouch to her height, The faceless head shifted, petal like openings fluttered as it made another trill sound.

THE MORE IT LOOKED AT HER, THE MORE IT REALIZED it could do something. It had a purpose, but what the purpose was it didn’t know. It continued to gaze at her, faceless head moving as if to study her. One clawed finger reached out to touch pale skin. It could look like her. It could do that. At the thought, fingers began to shorten. It felt a change within its body. Bones shrinking, bending, and extending. The rough, almost scaly skin began to drop away to match her softer skin. It moved back from her a few steps, cowering within the wood’s floor as it started to become a… he.

HUNGER. IT FELT THE NEED TO FEED, SMELLED THE BLOOD, and felt vibrations against the ground. Food was near. A trill echoed from its throat, a soft chirping sounding— eerie in such a silent space. It crouched to the ground, clawed hands digging into the earth. It was feeling, sensing on which way the prey was coming. Then suddenly, the faceless head snapped in the direction of a sound. Prey was there. It made another trill in delightly, turning its body to face the prey— no. Not prey. It stiffened, the head tilting with curiosity. Still, it made no move forward or back. It simply gazed with no eyes, trying to understand. @cahroline

PART OF HIM NEVER THOUGHT HE WOULD SUFFER FROM PERFECTION. How could he? His life was far from perfection, but it was the expectations of being perfect that snagged him. Bless his mother. She only wanted the best for all of them, but the responsibilities he was burdened with— maybe he did that himself too, “ No, no it’s not, ” he agreed in a small breath. It was only then that he realized what he said, and the weight of such words, “ I’m sorry, ” he shook his head, puzzled by himself, “ I didn’t mean to… ” to what? Speak? Say such heavy words?
