TRIGUN has a lot of grating wacky 90s animu shit but it's still pretty interesting as a rare example of Japanese popular media dealing in Christian thematics from the perspective of someone with firsthand knowledge of Christianity, compared to the caricatured versions that usually show up even in works by very smart and well-read writers.
(Mamoru Oshii is also a lapsed Christian whose struggles with faith inform several of his films, and Shinichiro Watanabe, though far more concerned with humanist than spiritual themes, has prominently incorporated Christian characters into several of his works in a way that makes me wonder what his history is with them.)
