Week 9 blog post
I chose to google search Instagram as I am quite active there (to my surprise) and is a social media platform which I don’t know that much about. From my search, I was able to learn that Instagram was created on October 6, 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger for the IOS systems. The app was later released for android phones 2 years later and then after that it was released for other types of phones (windows and google phones). To my shock, instagram is owned by Facebook now as they were bought by them a few years back. It’s quite shocking as Instagram and Facebook don’t seem to be that alike when it comes to the content that is posted in each site. It might be because I no longer use facebook like I did back in high school, but Instagram seems to allow people to post some nsfw content without it being removed till someone reports it. By the time that happens a large number of people have already seen the risky content. Facebook on the other hand seems to monitor almost everything that it’s users post. It limits people from posting certain things in fear of getting banned or having their account deactivated. I believe that as it’s parent company Facebook should be more vigilant about the content that is posted on Instagram. I cannot say the number of times I’ve seen public execution memes on Instagram. That really haunts you.
