Hey so I made a playlist for the songs I’ve been listening to while writing this fic (first chapter should be up in time for EraserMight week). If you want to listen to it, you can check it out here!
Shout-out to @loshka and @ewebean for putting up with me. Check out their art: 1 2 3 4
ヾ(⌐■_■)ノ♪: what are your favorite band(s)/artist(s)?
From the emoticon meme, which is still a thing (feel free to send me these strange faces).
Oh, anon. Is this music anon? Or just another musically interested anon? Either way, you’ve asked a question that is not precisely hard but which requires a long answer. I’m bad at choosing favourites.
I think I’ve written on here before about my strange childhood in which music written later than the Romantic period in Western Art music didn’t exist? So having grown up for 14 years or so on Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, etc., I still really love what’s more broadly (if incorrectly) termed “classical music.” Beethoven is actually one of my favourite composers; I have his face on an album cover hanging on my wall over my dresser so I can look at him every morning as I’m getting dressed, which did not seem weird until I just typed it out. Hmm. I love Bach because I’m playing Bach on the organ (“Trio Sonata no. 1”) and when I’ve had a long, hard day there’s something almost meditative about sitting down and playing through a piece that’s so mathematically precise, everything fits together in neat little patterns and inversions, and even with all that precision there’s still emotion. I could talk to you about Baroque & Classical & Romantic composers for a while but I suspect this question was probably aimed at more contemporary stuff so let’s fast-forward. Here’s an incomplete list, in no particular order:
Talking Heads
Bruce Springsteen
David Bowie
Led Zeppelin
Joni Mitchell
Judy Collins
Bob Dylan
R.E.M.
Devo
Simon & Garfunkel
Woody Guthrie
Peter, Paul & Mary
The Mamas and the Papas
CHVRCHES
Lauren O’Connell
Queen
Miyavi
Ore Ska Band
Yoko Kanno / Seatbelts
Regina Spektor
10,000 Maniacs
Wilco
First Aid Kit
Vienna Teng
Tate Takako
Ben Howard
Mat Kearney
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
Tracy Chapman
Lucy Wainwright Roche
The Roches
Dar Williams
Bobby McFerrin
Ray LaMontagne
The Swell Season
James Vincent McMorrow
James Taylor
Fleet Foxes
That’s just what came to mind, sitting here, in a very strangely laid out classroom, on a borrowed laptop. I’m sure there are more. Most of these names appear in my #weekend grooves tag, if you want some song selections. I don’t know. I used to listen to a lot more rock music, when I was 14 or 15 and had just discovered it, but these days, unless I’m at the gym (I ran to MGMT yesterday; it worked well) I’m more inclined towards folk music or at least acoustic stuff, hence the latter part of this list. Anyway, thanks for asking!
When you gonna make up your mind?
When you gonna love you as much as I do?
When you gonna make up your mind?
'Cause things are gonna change so fast.
All the white horses are still in bed,
I tell you that I'll always want you near.
You say that things change, my dear.
I've got a song rec for you! Maybe a bit too optimistic for HTW fic, but it crossed my mind all the same. The song is "Hey Hey Hey" by Delta Rae.
I’ve heard some Delta Rae before; they have a great sound. Here’s “Hey Hey Hey.” Another one with relevant lyrics, and even if it’s a bit optimistic, they do have their optimistic moments in the fic, right? Thanks for the rec!
I’ve been trying to get you off of my mind for some time now, ain’t going well.
Your window’s open babe, but your doors are closed. You want a breeze to sweep in and shake your bones. But the sky is clear as day and the air is calm,so come on out and play; I’m not here that long.
