Week of Play 2024.01.13-19

Oh no where has the time gone?

Getting back on the bandwagon that now that the new year is officially under way. This week has been kind of light in terms of gameplay as I am focusing on forming new habits and getting paperwork ready for next year.

But on to the GAMES

PC

More Astroneer this week. Getting my base set up and exploring more of the world. It is nice that there is a series of tutorial missions, now I just need to find the menu for it. I found one of the monuments that is central to the big mystery and story of the game. It looks like Astroneer won the analysis so I will be working on taking it apart

Switch

Of course, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a classic that I am slowly working my way through in Japanese. Sitting down and trying to understand the new words is hard but I am hoping that it will get easier with time. I like it because it is more open than other traditional JRPGs that have a shit-ton more text, so less vocabulary to learn while still having a solid story.

It would help if I could actually focus on it instead of my main goal; climb every mountain in not but my boxers, 3 hearts, and a dream.

Mobile

I have been playing less mobile games but one I keep coming back to is TrainStation 2, mostly because it is an easy game to wait around in. It's monetization structure is also fascinating because it takes advantage of that wait time and provides just enough to incentivize voluntary advertisement viewing.

I have been playing less of this since I have lost data so wandering around hunting stuff is a pain in the ass. I should be back to it soon but the wandering itself is more satisfying without it unfortunately. I will still put this on the docket for dissection just because the game design is superb in my opinion

I haven't been playing much else this week. I fell off of Sword Ling RPG as between it's overwhelming interface and difficulty getting into the gameplay

That's it for now. I am going to see about playing more Astroneer, Hooked On You, and one mystery game so stick around and find out (Who knows what my mobile games will be, YOU CAN'T MAKE ME SAY)

Weekend Play

Due to work and family stuff, I’m pretty short of time to play games. But, I still try and here’s what I have been playing this week, and will be playing over the coming week.

- OVERWATCH: In case you hadn’t noticed. Overwatch is still super fun to me. And the short matches mean I can squeeze in a couple of rounds before heading to work, which is great.

-BINDING OF ISAAC: Another short(ish) game. I’ve been playing this before bed on my laptop. Oddly I find it to be a great bed time, wind down game. And obvs the re-playability on this is pretty good

. -SKYRIM: I know. I have so many good games that I am currently playing and new releases I want to play and here I am playing old games. Look, I know. But I dug out the old 360 and put it in my room - pretty much as a way to play games in the evening without disturbing everyone. And Skyrim’s kinda fun still… Although I have forgotten how much I fucking hate mountains in video games. Just let me get to the other side! Christ.

I’m still playing DOOM and Dark Souls, just my time constraints have stopped me from really getting at them this week :( Hopefully I’m gonna have more time to really get into games - as is I really only have an hour here or there to play. I much prefer being able to sit down for a longer session.

Games I’m Playing This Week

- Still on that Dark Souls shit. Haven’t had much time to play this week, but I’ll maybe play this weekend. I’ve convinced my pal to get DS so he’s in this hell with me.

- DOOM. I got DOOM yesterday. Haven’t played too much but it’s really fun. I’m not very good at FPS but that’s alright. I like that it is always in all caps. DOOM. It’s great.

- Pokemon Apex (http://pokemonapex.tumblr.com/) It’s a fan made pokemon game that’s more mature in content. I’ve played about an hour but had to restart. It seems cool so far, it’s free and seems to be well made so it’s worth a look.

- On the mobile phone I am playing Don’t Get Fired. Which is equally depressing and funny. It’s about working hard, trying to get promoted while not getting fired/dying from exhaustion. It’s interesting? 

-Another one on my phone: Bushido Bear. It’s cute and funny and you play as a ninja bear. It fulfils everything I need to kill time while waiting for my doctor’s appointment. 10/10 will waste time on this game again.

A Change to Games

We play games every week and its really fun, but I think I want a slight change. Though, really its something I’ve wanted all along. I just really want it to happen soon rather than later. That change being, more people playing with us. Its always being myself and my two brothers. We’re the most consistent of the group. And actually, until my current job, I hadn’t missed a single week and I was very proud of that fact. And there’s three other guys who show up too and sometimes some girlfriends. But what I want is consistently, a large group.

So in my dream scenario, there’d be multiple games going on at one time. Maybe like, one two player game, one four player game, and one five player game. Some people playing more casual stuff, while others play more intense, hardcore stuff. And then you can really jump around, so that every game you play in one night isn’t with the same couple of people. That just sounds like a really fun way of mixing things up. And like, everyone knows each other and are friends. Maybe not the closest of friends. But still, everyone gets along and wouldn’t be afraid to call them out as a betrayer or a spy.

Maybe one day when everyone’s either got a significant other or when we all find jobs that we’ll stay at for the next decade. Regardless, it should be fun whenever it happens. I’m just hoping its sooner than later.

Announcement

I’m discontinuing my weekly games until further notice. Mayhaps I’ll bring them back in the future, but for now I’d like to take a break from them. Maybe I should make them monthly instead of weekly?

Weekly Games With Speedyistheotherguy: “Search Party!”

Weekly Game for the week of March 14th, 2015! Just in case you don’t know what the heck I’m talkin’ about, go here to find out! Now let’s get to the good stuff!

What: The theme for this week’s game is “Scavenger Hunt!”

Bart’s room can get pretty messy, but it’s nothing a little super-speed spring cleaning can’t fix! However, there are some things he still can’t find. Maybe he shouldn’t have just crammed everything into the closet, but hey, live and learn right? Besides, some of this stuff is probably just floating around. If you can help him find it, I’m sure he’d be really grateful!

How: Send “where was the last place you had it?” to my ask box and I’ll send you an item that Bart is missing. Then submit a short drabble about where/if/how your muse found that item and returned it to him. Did they have to go on a long search to find it? Were they the one who took it in the first place? Did anything funny happen to them while they were looking?

Why: As always, the winner will have their amazing submission published for all the world to see and admire as well as receiving a shout-out from me!
