Campaign Updates: Ascension (9/6/2014)
"Sir Thomas, when we came here it was with the understanding that we would be fighting with you in this war, not winning it for you. In the future, ensure that your companions are capable of remaining out of traps and on their feet. We will not always be here to save you from your folly."
[ Overall, Ranger-Captain Velana was somewhat disappointed in the Royal Army's showing; however, she is not yet motivated to depart the front. She also seemed to dislike Beauregard's decision to taunt Calder, rather than kill him. ]
"We have bled for this alliance. Dame Elisabeth has survived and a number of our men recovered, but you would do well to remember that we aren't here for your convenience. My grandfather's oath is not without condition. Scout enemy positions in the future -- or find yourself those willing to follow the blind."
[ After the Siege of Oaksfall, Sir Malcolm's estimation of the Royal Army has faltered. The fact that they were sent blindly into a situation that could have led to the deaths of his men will require some diplomacy to see that relations between the knights and the Royal Army do not further sour. ]
Northwold's Dragoons Join the Western Front:
"To His Grace, Lord Viktor Romel of the Grasp,
Terribly sorry that we weren't able to arrive in time for the siege of Oaksfall, but it would appear some of those yet loyal to my rapscallion of an uncle have chosen this the most opportune time to enact a bedeviling scheme!
Nevertheless, as Lord Bankston III has informed me, our beloved Mr. Longfellow has been captured and so we shall make it our utmost priority to see him freed and the rascals responsible for this reprehensible action shown proper repudiation.
Since last we met, Captain Moreau's shield maidens have taken to horse and will provide effective cover for our dragoons. Come whatever may, I do believe our enemy is in for a thorough trouncing! Tally ho!"
[ Baron Northwold's army will have arrived in the West by the next strategic planning session! With Captain Moreau's soldiers now offering protection, the dragoons have gained Armoring. ]
Clan Odek Joins the Eastern Front:
I dinnae know how it came to be, but the Argents have my son. Th' sons o' tha moontain're comin' and they're t'e know tha' coonsequences'a thar actions. 've sent supplies t'e tha Wast, but it'll be the East what's supported by Odek arms 'nd the supplies.
This day, young 'nd old'll get blooded!"
[ Clan Odek has joined the Eastern Front and will provide a captain in the form of Thane Brynnja Odek. She brings with her 150 men-at-arms with CLASH. They have also gained Dun Draigmar cannons in the East. In the west, the 10 turn penalty will be removed for remainder of the campaign unless something should happen to the supplies. ]
Dryda's Brood is Readied:
"I must say, this is a rather... unexpected bout of generosity from my dear friends. First the deserters and now the promise of the... stunning Sir Calder. I simply must find a way to make it up to you. I don't suppose you've ever had the thought of an eight-legged dalliance, my lord?
Oh, I tease. But my sentries have overheard some... dissension among your ranks as to how you have acted in the days past. I would sleep with one eye open. Or eat them, but I suppose you wouldn't choose that option."
[ Dryda's brood has become sated off of the deserters and will now fight with greater force in the defense of Tulloch. Supplying them with food every week will ensure that an attack against Tulloch will likely be settled in ABS without need of player input. Additionally, it appears that some among the Royal Army are displeased with Paul Beauregard's behavior. ]
"Well, do I got a story for you, sugar. So there I was, goin' about my spywork, when one of them Argent fellers decided that he wanted company for the evenin'. Now, I don't know why men think a girl that likes a good time is in it for any pecuniary gains, but that sure wasn't what this filly was after. No, I'm doin' this for the queen.
So there I was, wearin' the most re-diculous costume a soul's ever laid eyes on when the feller gets called away by one of his hoity-toits and ol' Delilah's left with nothin' to do but twiddle her thumbs. Well, and other things.
Then all of a sudden, there's a demand what comes for me -- we need priestesses, some-such about a prisoner what's gone from the good to the bad. So I'm thinkin' what's Delilah got to do with that? When all of a sudden, I remember that Argent wanted me to dress up like a priestess for 'im. So I had to think fast -- cause that's what spies do, sugar -- and decide to go along.
Lo and behold, it's one of His Grace's flowers all but close to wiltin'. I seen a few women in a bad way, but this was just shameful. So I did my sweet talkin' like it's nectah what come pourin' out these lips and 'fore ya know it, me and the lass is back here. No accounting for what they done to her, but I'd say she's worse off than better. I couldn't do much for her injuries, after all. I mean, ain't like I'm REALLY a priestess!"
[ Delilah has managed to rescue Lucille Marsh from captivity. Unfortunately, she could not discover Lucien's location before the Argents were aware of what was happening. She will also be able to return information on Stonebrook at the start of next weekly. ]
All's Well that Isn't Well:
With help from Franz Gebhard, Katarina Boucher, and Koraul we were able to clean up the remaining elements of Crown Knight sympathizers in Blue Harbor. More importantly, we took one of them alive and after your... champions... set to them, it wasn't long before he was confessing all that he knew.
Apparently, the action in River's Eye is just a distraction. There's something else going on in the Dawn, but the snitch didn't have much else to share. Whatever's to happen, I'll wait for your instructions before continuing with the investigation."
[ Mercer Lyons' investigation has revealed a plot that is taking shape in the Dawn. Although he is uncertain of where it will be, the most likely places are Longcastle, Dawnholde, and Dawnhaven. Further investigation may reveal greater details. ]
Blackmarsh -- The Dawn: Uncertainty.
"Oy, did'ye hear, m'lard? Romel the Retreater's up to 'is old antics, 'e is! Sent that Witch'a the Marsh after the Argents and they doned 'er in proper, but a'fore they could finish 'er off, there comes Romel ta the field. Nearly won it, they say, but when the Argents gaved him a proper shellackin' he turned tail and runned off!"
"I do not understand why you are speaking to me as though we were equals, Graspian peasant, but you have it incorrect. The queen's dog is a fighter and did show the Argents a proper thrashing, but was forced to retreat when larger numbers arrived. Oaskfall was a strategic victory, if not a tactical one. Now, do finish shining my shoe and see that if you are to use that disgusting tongue of yours, it is on the buckle. There is a copper in it for you if you make me see myself."
"Now, if you wish to speak of a coward, then let us speak on matters of this Alteraci pissant that continues to bungle the Eastern Front..."
Blackmarsh -- The Grasp: Resentment.
"Romel is an idiot, but he is no fool. He was well aware that sending the Lady Bayne into that battle was a certain defeat. He is a disgusting creature, who cares only for his tenuous grasp on the land bestowed upon him by the queen. Should River's Eye fall, are we truly in any worse a position than if he remained in power? Perhaps it is time we considered other options. Better... options."
Blackmarsh -- The Dread: Delight.
"The Grasp and Dawn continue to bleed in the name of a war started by outsiders. I see no reason not to be delighted."
Blackmarsh -- Blackwood: Indifference.
"Lady Pendleton is quit the castle, we have greater concerns than what is happening in River's Eye or Myrwood. Quickly, alert His Majesty that she is absent her duties! Oh! Quickly! GO!"
Blackmarsh -- The Grave: Uncertainty.
"His Grace has left us once more in the midst of a war. They say Sir Braxton's army was intended for us, likely to bring an end to Lianna, but... would they have stopped there? Romel protected us once but, is that his place?"
[ Overall, Blackmarsh is uncertain as to how the war is being led. Future defeats or victories will influence how open Blackmarsh is to potential disasters to come. ]
"First Madam Kauthryn dies due to his incompetence in the field and now he is bartering with that creature with the lives of men -- deserters, but still men -- as his means of trade? I do not much care for this Lord Beauregard or his disdain for honor. Be mindful of him, mon cher. It is not likely long before he has sent us to our deaths as well."
[ Paul Beauregard's increasingly immoral actions are causing the Dawnguard in the Eastern Front to become uncertain of his leadership. This may have ramifications in future battles if it is not addressed. ]
Edevyn Bayne besieges Oaksfall: DEFEATED.
"I will assume that this action was to further the misdirection that we are at each other's throats, Your Grace. In the future, please ensure that I am not being delivered into the hands of a witless sociopath."
[ Edevyn's Army was defeated, but Sir Geralt was convinced to defect to the Royal Army as a result. ]
Marjorie Galawain attacks Deserters: VICTORY.
"Disreputable varlets! You swore an oath and should see it through to its end! Do you believe Lady Kauthryn's memory is well served by such cowardice? En garde!"
[ Dame Marjorie has defeated the Deserter Army. ]
The Siege of Oaksfall: DEFEAT.
"With the Argent Crusade initially losing the city as Sir Geralt Gebrain defected to the Royal Army, Sir Murdoch Hill arrived to attempt to retake it only to be defeated by the Royal Army. As his men were routing though, Commander Jackson Benedictus of Marshlight arrived with over a thousand men and chased the Royal Army from the field. Casualties were high for the Crusade, but they claimed the victory."
[ With 1,500 men against 504, the Royal Army was defeated. Although 800 men were defeated under the Argent Crusade, they took captives in the form of Lucien Cassamere and Duke White Haven. Nine New Captains have also joined the battle, led by Captain Gwendolyn Galawain. ]
The Siege of Tulloch: VICTORY.
"The Argent Crusade began the siege by waiting for reinforcements led by Brooke Presley. Once they arrived, Captain Calder Rothary led his men forward, but a phoenix strike by Captain Dawnwhisper saw his advance halted momentarily. After capturing Lord Hargrave, Calder then wrought havoc before being greatly damaged by the army and eventually captured by Leonie Thorne. Brooke's army was nearly devastated by a planned attack south with the aid of tunnels, but quick thinking saw her men revitalized and her enemy sent into retreat. An uneasy standoff remained until finally she withdrew from the field with her captives in the form of Williert Stokeswood and Sharlotte Rutland."
[ With 1,500 men against the 445 present at Tulloch, the Royal Army managed to stave off the enemy and took a victory. Although Sir Thomas did route Beauregard's army, Captain Dawnwhisper was able to prevent a retreat twice. 300 Argents were killed in the fighting, with 200 taken captive alongside Calder. ]
Northern Front Begins: Lichter's Landing.
"We have made it at long last. Now is the time that our war against darkness begins anew. The Falconheart will be the offensive arm of this campaign while we secure Lichter's Landing. Logically, our first course must be to free Ravenshire from the Forsaken's grasp. Godspeed."
[ Lichter's Landing has been secured and will act as the Northern Front's base of operations. The first battle will be at Ravenshire. ]
Prisoner Exchange: Eastern Front.
The Argent Crusade would like to exchange prisoners, if you are amendable to the decision, then please consider the following: All Argent captives will be released in exchange for Sir Calder and Sir Thomas. In addition, we will return the items stripped from those previously in captivity.
Please, respond within the week. Thank you you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Ms. H.T. Clayton
The Hills Have Spies: Both Fronts.
"They've become a little too comfortable a little too quickly. Here, take this back to the commander. I'm certain that'll be worth a pretty penny or twelve."
[ Spies have begun to take place in both fronts, many of them intent upon becoming moles in enemy armies. Be diligent during your decision making turns, or you may be in for a nasty surprise! ]
A Man Named Angus: Western Front.
"Foist, they goin' 'round chasin' afta' goo' fol', makin' 'em think they ain't nah good. Then, they's tellin' my lil sis that she ain't right. Now they got us sickly and hoitin' an' fa' what? Mash 'em up, I say! WHO'S WITH ME?"
[ So long as Angus remains active in Stranglehold, the amount of dissent he can cause will go up. This week, he's convinced 13 people to join with him. How many next week? Angus can either be negotiated with, defeated in a duel, or killed. ]
