Week Reflection Three
This week was the start of the Blazer cutting out and constructing. I was hesitant to get started but once I had a meeting with Mark and the other blazer constructors I was able to ask questions I needed to build my confidence to get started. Once I started laying out my patterns lining up the stripes I realised I was over thinking it. With only certain pieces could line up properly which were; the CF and CB mirroring and the sleeves had the stripes lying through the top and bottom design lines. I did later realised I needed to match up the shoulder seams with the stripes but luckily mine did fall quite easily together.
This week we didn’t have much time with Marks help so it helped push us to be more independent with our project and try to make our own judgements on constructing the garment. It was useful to be in the studios with the other makers as we were able to use each other to discuss and work through challenges. With the welt pocket I brought in my own notes from previously making them before so this was going to be my fifth time. I wanted to see how much I could remember from the technique I was taught. We were handed out instruction but I found it hard to get my head round them as I’m not a strong reader. In the end we were all referring back to my waistcoat workshop notes.
I achieved creating all the pockets by the end of the week, which fit in with my scheduled time plan. I did get held up because we didn’t have all material we needed to move ahead so we decided we didn’t want this to happen again so we got together and wrote down everything we will need to the end of this project.
I am happy with what I have achieved this week I have been productive with my time and have planned ahead this week. Trying to think of what we need and what issues may occur so we can task 'what are the next steps in making a blazer?' On Wednesday next week with Mark. I feel I have improved on trusting my own instinct and knowledge, referring back to my own notes and the garments given, developing my independence as a maker.
My aim for next week will be to plan the order of the next steps in constructing the blazer. I will be staying late night study on Wednesday because this week I am only going to be in the studios two days this week. Due to the ban holiday and attending a tailoring work shop with the National Theatre on Thursday. Hopefully this workshop will add to my skills and how I execute the end of this project.
