Weekly Reflection Five
This week has been very successful having because I am ahead of my new timetable just leaving the lining to be slip stitched in on Monday morning. Then it should be complete so I will press and remove all tacking.
With this being a independent project I should have researched more into how to construct a Jacket because as a group we would still need help in understanding how the collar was constructed. Once we knew that canvas and melton were attached I was able to work the rest of the week very independently. Thinking further into the pattern I was given and the best order and way to attach the rest of the garment.
Instead of making real cuff openings I decided to create a false one because it would keep best for the hire store and with the seam allowance left it was the best option. The National Theatre visitor said they wouldn't be used so they didn't have a preference.
I sewed in my lining sleeves while the lining was attached to the top side of the jacket with the machine. If I was to do this again I would have attached all the lining separately before attaching it to the rest of the jacket.
Looking at the collar pattern I felt the size of the stand was partially large. I compared to the rest of my jacket but felt it gave it a 70s look because of the out of proportion of the size to the jacket. From using my research and the sample we were given I reduced the size of the collar stand to a similar size of the sample provided by the National theatre.
This week I was proud of my development in my confidence and creating adaptions to my garment I felt were needed and benefited the piece as a whole. I am trying to not just construct the garment but take a step back and look how it works as a whole. Looking at the stripes, the way certain parts sit and the fit of the garment. I have measured some friends this week to see who will fit the garment and hopefully see how it fits on a live body as we haven't been tailoring it to a person. Just to check certain points like the size of the arm holes, collar and the position of the buttons and shoulder pads.
