WEEK 6 REFLECTION
Evaluate any research that you have done which has had a big impact on your ideas/work?
During the week lots of research into woodblock artists had been done, seeing what kind of work is possible through woodblock was inspiring to me and I looked forward to creating my own despite the challenge I felt it’d be compared to lino. Analyse the practical work that that you have completed this week – what materials/processes/techniques have you used? Why? What have you learnt?
I’ve learned how to design a woodcut, flip it so the text is the correct way using the photocopier, transfer it onto the wood using carbon paper, cut the wood and print it.
How have you pushed the practical tasks independently?
Developing my woodcut designs through drawing over photocopies and creating entirely new work from them. What practical problems have you faced and solved this week?
Because I decided my design should be something as fiddly as a face with small features such as nostrils, I didn’t want to cut these too big and this resulted in the cuts not being deep enough in that general area and the mouth not showing after a couple prints due to being filled with ink.
