WEEKLY ZOO DRAWING (WEEK 34): SUN CONURE, FENNEC FOX & CHAMELEON
Today I worked with a technique I learned at the Concept Design Academy in Pasadena from Peter Han. I worked on toned paper with marker, ink and gouache (Unlike watercolour paint, gouache can be applied to toned paper).
A loose gesture is made with marker, followed by a thin pen sketch over that. Paint is applied and lines are built up over the paint. I love this technique because every step is adding to the final illustration. You can also be more impressionistic, which works great for life drawing.
The Sun Conue painting has a lot of flaws in my opinion because I was getting used to this new technique. After that I feel like I got the hang of things. I want to work this way in the weeks to follow, it works very well for me!
For next week’s zoo drawings I’m doing something special! I’m not going to spoil it but be sure to come back for those!
Drawn at the Artis Royal Zoo in Amsterdam. Come back to my Tumblr every week for animal drawings.
