Been mulling over just how evil the landlord is for saying she wants to raise the rent to make sure that ‘better people live here’. Like, the only ‘bad’ person I’ve met in this complex IS the landlord. This is the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel lowest priced apartment complex probably in the entire state, barring informal agreements, subletting and housemate situations, but the people she calls ‘wrong’ here are honestly incredibly friendly, polite and supportive to one another. People in the apartment complex feed each other’s pets when their owners can’t afford food, they communally grow vegetables outside and let everyone harvest from them, care for the elderly during health crises, and so much more. It’s an entire complex of the poor, the vulnerable, the very old and the very young. Parts of this complex are section 8 housing and specifically for those with disabilities and similar. There are plenty of people who have immigrated in but are unable to find more than entry level work (myself included: I have a degree but rural america only has food service and cleaning available for me with soul grinding hours)... There are a surprising amount of lesbian couples here (also myself and my wife included lmao). Are there people who struggle with addiction, or have performed some kind of petty crime? Yeah of course there are, one of them here adopts and cares for rabbits and does volunteer ecological works. Even if they were awful people, would they deserve to have no roof over their head? No. If you oust people from the economy by rendering them homeless, how the hell are they supposed to do any of the things that people consider important like helping to cycle money through the system, or pay taxes, or work their way to newer/better/different lifestyles? Tell me who the hell is the ‘wrong kind of person’ here.
