Hi I was wondering if you had any suggestions of where to start if someone's never read the comics before and may not have the time to start all the way back in the 60s issues. I'm still a comic book noob, and I want to read more of the story during hiatus. Thanks!
let me start off by saying that this is entirely my opinion. others have their opinions and ideas of where to start, but this is where i started so i think it’s a good place to start.
alright, so imo, i would recommend starting on volume 3. it started in 2009 or 2010 and ended in 2013. v3 is a really good introduction for daredevil newbies. it references past volumes but doesn’t require the reader to be an expert to understand and enjoy the story. imo, this is a good place to start c’:
if and when you catch up to the current run and you still want to read the older issues, go ahead and read ‘em. read miller’s run, read nocenti’s run, read bendis/maleev’s run. read whichever writer suits your fancy.i think a good test of where to start then is to read frank miller’s the man without fear. if you like the netflix series, you’ll more than likely enjoy it since the show took much inspiration from it. if you like miller’s style and the tone, start at his run (v1 165); if you don’t like miller’s style but like the tone, start anytime after his run (but be aware of the born again arc since it influences the series even to this day); if you don’t like miller’s style or the tone, then well – maybe just avoid miller but check out the other runs. each writer brought their own style so it’s just a matter of finding what suits you.
you being new to comics, though, i feel it important to mention that you don’t have to read every single issue to be considered a comic book or daredevil fan. you like comic books and you like daredevil: that makes you a fan.
i hope this helps :’)
