Ok idk how much fandom crossover there is with supernatural and the cdrama guardian but I think guardian would make a sickass destiel AU and in this essay I will explain why (this will contain spoilers for both shows)
For those unfamiliar with spn, it’s about two brothers called Sam and Dean who hunt monsters and spooky creatures, and from s4 onwards there’s an angel character called Castiel (Cas). Cas starts off as a soldier of heaven who is trying to use and weaponise the brothers, but he falls in love with Dean and rebels for him, then slowly adjusts to a human way of life despite not being human himself. However, his arc on the show continues to be defined by how torn he is between loyalty to Heaven, and love for humanity.
For those unfamiliar with guardian, it’s about a special investigations department who deal with supernatural beings and occurrences, since the human world contains portals to the magical underworld of Dixing, where most people look human but have superhuman powers. Department head Zhao Yunlan is in regular contact with the mysterious Hei Pao Shi, a masked representative of Dixing; at the same time, he’s striking up a romance with university professor Shen Wei. Little does he know, Shen Wei IS Hei Pao Shi, cosplaying as a human and trying to balance his sworn duty to Dixing with his yearning for Zhao Yunlan.
You see it right??? Dean and ZYL are super similar characters too! Both cheeky flirty disaster bisexuals who use bravado as self defense and refuse to take anything seriously. Both have a tendency for arrogance and an unfortunate hobby of self sacrifice, and both think they’re way cooler than they actually are, but they’re genuinely good hearted so they inspire devotion and loyalty. Both 90% daddy issues.
SW is more fashion forward and probably a little more socially adept than Cas, and Cas is more of a grumpy bitch than SW, but they’re both immortal non-humans in love with a human idiot and Suffering for it. They’re both badass warriors but are naturally more inclined to want to help rather than hurt. They both also share the same solemn intensity and the same penchant for epic devoted life-altering simping.
Anyway this AU would have Dean as the head of the SID, with Sam as his right hand man (in guardian this is a literal catboy but that’s not really important), and you could have the other SID team members be idk Bobby, Charlie, Kevin etc. Just like ZYL, Dean has taken over the role from his father, whom he both resents and idolises. Dixing, in this AU, would be Heaven/Hell/Purgatory etc. HPS - in this AU, an emissary from Heaven - could be trueform Cas speaking to Dean inside his mind??? Rather than a physical form?? Or it could just be humanform Cas in a mask and cloak like in guardian. At the same time, Cas is (badly) pretending to be human and helping Dean with SID cases whilst maintaining his double identity.
This has just been on my mind as a fun idea but I doubt I’ll write it tbh. If anyone else wants to write this AU (or has already done so) please link it in replies!
