Sneaking into the castle was a highly inappropriate act. Considering who he was, and the level of recognition that he had earned, it was also something that Link shouldn't have needed to do. He could have just stepped in through the front door (well, palace gates) and asked to see the Queen.
Except, judging by the position of the moon, it was roughly two in the morning.
Except, if he had been stopped or told no, he really wasn't sure what would actually happen.
Scaling the side of the castle wall was an easy feat now compared to the past; the lack of giant ravenous bird monsters trying to rip him to the ground made it practically a cinch to pull himself up the stone wall to the window that overlooked a winding staircase. He dropped down and crouched, breath held tight in his throat as he waited.
Beat. Beat.
When the only sound that reached his ears was that of the blood pumping through his veins, Link started to move. His footsteps were silent but the door leading into the bedchamber was not; he cringed hearing the wood groan and creak. Was it loud? Or was it just his own hearing, hypersensitive now from the anxiety he felt?
Carefully, silently, he slipped over to the figure sleeping in bed. A small twinge of guilt had him pausing, knowing that it wasn't really fair of him to involve her-- but he had no one else to turn to. Who else could possibly understand...?
Link gently placed a hand on the Queen's shoulder to shake her awake.
